RNC fundraiser's special guest -- Breitbart

The liberal Web site Talking Points Memo is reporting that conservative provocateur Andrew Breitbart -- who posted the very misleading excerpt of Shirley Sherrod's address to the NAACP -- is set to participate in an August fundraiser with RNC Chairman Michael Steele.

Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele has a party fundraising event coming up in August that is scheduled to feature a very special guest: Conservative media activist Andrew Breitbart, according to a copy of the invitation exclusively obtained by TPM.

The fundraising event, billed as an "Election Countdown," will take place from August 12-14 in Beverly Hills, California, and will also feature other politicians such as California Lt. Gov. Abel Maldonado, Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, and Nevada Republican gubernatorial nominee Brian Sandoval. Steele and Breitbart are scheduled to co-headline a welcome reception on the first evening, August 12.

Here is a copy of the invitation to the fundraiser.

*** UPDATE *** The RNC confirms to First Read the invitation to the Steele-Breitbart fundraiser.

JoAanna,I just have to ask when did the economy start losing jobs and when did this recession start. It seems that people on the right act like this all started with this Administration. If the Republicans policies are so effective how did we get in this boat to begin with? What would the republicans do to bring back jobs and help this economy gain traction? Other than to reduce taxes again which would increase the deficit. I am really curious as to what the republicans will do if they do regain control, maybe you might know?

When did the recession start? In 2007 when the sub-prime mortgage bubble burst. And this is important because why? You see RM, you and your type want to focus on the past, and that's fine, if that's where you want to live, that's your business. The real question is, when is the current administration going to do something that improves the situation? The problem with Bush is he acted too much like a liberal. Note that conservatives abandoned him and droves, mostly because he increased unfunded mandates for the expansion of social programs. Fast forward to today, and what do we have? A president that has super-sized what Bush was doing, which includes a health care plan that was sold as "paid-for" which is looking to be anything but paid for, endless extensions of unemployment benefits, and a failed stimulus bill. Those are the very same types of polices as you say got us in trouble in the first place.

What would Republicans do to bring back jobs? First, not be so hostile as Obama has been to small businesses and Wall Street. Obama has this us-vs-them mentality that tells businesses of the country that they are the problem and he is the solution. He's wrong about that. The other thing Republicans, or someone, has to start saying no to any new government spending. First thing, the deficit must get put under control, and then eliminated. To do so, Social Security needs reform (remember, Bush tried to, but the Democrats said "No"!), as does Medicare. That where the Republicans can start.

JoAnna, I don't see it as living in the past, I really am curious as to how what you stated will bring any jobs back. For the economy to make a comeback it has to have consumer confidence. Business will not hire people if no one is buying what they are selling. Social Security Reform will do nothing to help vitalize the economy. But you are certainly entitled to your opinion.

By the way, the fact that we are fighting two wars that are unfunded doesn't help either.

If you would just take a breath and clear your mind. RM (and his type) don't want to dwell on the past. Far from it. But the fact are the facts. Oh, and now Bush was acting like a liberal, which is why we're in this mess? He was warned back in 2007 he better do something about sub prime mortgages; either he didn't get it or didn't care. Conservatives didn't abandon him because of that, they wanted something else/different/better. Unemployment benefits need to be paid out, period. Can you just hear all these tea partiers if you really start talking about reforming SS and Medicare? How exactly would they do it? Obama's only hostile to the big banks/corporations. Remember when we had to bail them out, but they still forked over BILLIONS in bonus money? Banks supposed to be helping people near or in foreclosure? What a joke. I know where they can start, though. How about ending the tax cuts (for the wealthy, that is) instead of keeping them forever? Talk is cheap, but action takes guts. By the way, where are those WMD's we spent all our money looking for?

Retired Military, you're correct Social Security reform will not help the economy. At some point it will need reform, on that point we can all agree. What's puzzling too me is these Tea Party types offer no solutions to our economic problems. They scream cut spending, but cut what spending? Just once, I'd like see some specificity on spending cuts that would balance the budget.

The Left of the country cannot let go of the past. Rather then accept that as President Barack Obama, and his parties strong majorities in Congress, have made some serious errors in the last 19 months that not only hurt the country today, but will hurt future generations. The interest on the every increasing debt are management when interest rates are at record lows, but when the rise, those payment will take $500 billion to dollars a year of tax payer money to just service the debt, and not reduce it.

And consumer confidence is down because 1) High unemployment, 2) High under employment 3) Belief that if you have a job today, you may not tomorrow. Obama's hostile stance towards business harms people's belief that they can find a job, or keep their job. WIth that, no one is buying anything that they absolutely do not need.

Dee, you've got it backwards. Bush attempted to do something the impending sub-prime crash, but was told by the likes of Barney Frank and Chris Dodd that they'd accuse him (Bush) of racism if he stopped the homeownership of minorities. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMnSp4qEXNM

Retired Military, you're correct Social Security reform will not help the economy.

Really? You don't think reforming a program that collects 15% of the entire nations payroll, and that is causing ever increasing debt load on to the country, will help the economy?

If you don't think decreasing the deficit will improve the economy, you must have great confidence in Obama's plan which spends trillions each year in deficit spending.

Is dredging up age old Rev Wright speech quotes the best you can do? Most people don't care what Rev Wright said. In fact, most people never even heard of him. This may come as a shock to you but most decent hard working folks never listen to talk radio. I used to listen from time to time but got bored listening to same old BS every day.

Read "The Manchurian President" by Aaron Klein. It is exposing him on a daily basis. Huge bestseller.

HolyRoller, Anyone associated with WorldNet Daily has zero credibility. Come on. you know he's a right-wing quack. If it is a 'bestseller' it's because the far right buys it in bulk and distributes it free for promotional purposes. It's been severly discredited as a work of fiction by all credible reviewers. I prefer objectivity when I read political books. I'll draw my own conclusions about the accuracy of the content.

The Republicans are showing their true colors, embracing as a hero someone now universally known to have gone out of his way to mislead the public. In their minds, it's OK to lie, slime, and slander if the intended message supports the agenda. I hope the American people have the decency to be appropriately revolted, and the wisdom to see that a party that needs concocted mistruths to sell its positions may not have positions worth supporting.

How can the Breitbart video clip be misleading unless it was tampered with? Breitbart's original and only POINT was... showing the reactions of the NAACP AUDIENCE to what was being said by the speaker. He was showing the hypocrisy of the NAACP. All other interpretations of the clip were only in the eyes of the subsequent beholders. NAACP disavowed Sherrod... and they had access to the whole video. Dept of AGRIC fired her without even asking for the entire video. Do you see stupid in here somewhere? Sherrod had been fired HOURS before the story ever made it on cable news. (CNN aired it the most number of times). Get a grip, people.

Try to get a grip on the facts and the truth. Breitbart's clip was selectively edited and posted with an erroneous and inflammatory headline. Vilsack and the USDA acted too hastily because Beck and Fox News had misreported the "facts" of the story throughout the day and were going to "go international" with it again at 5:00 pm EST.

Clearly you personally have not bothered to watch the unedited full version of the tape of Sherrod's speech to the NAACP, about her experience at a non-profit org. 24 years ago where she thought about behaving in a reverse-racist way and instead chose to do the right thing, resulting in helping a white farmer keep his land.

                For shame.

LBJ said it well...he is quoted as saying..."I'll have the n*****s voting Democrat for a hundred years"...and the Dems are doing their best to give some Section 8, Food Stamps, and "community organizing" to insure his accuracy.

just to let you know, there are more white people who recieve food stamps and section 8 housing valchers. the % of blacks is higher but there are more whites that are as people say are living off the government.

Sherrod got the short end of the stick as they say. However, Fox did not report this until she resigned. So don't blame them. Breitbart has not admitted to doctoring the video. If so show me where. His statement was that Sherrod was never his target. He was trying to show the audience of NAACP people cheering and clapping when she made the 1st remarks about sending the farmer to one of his own. Not knowing how she was going to end the story. The video he showed was what he received (according to him). I nor you have anyway to dispute that. Not unless you can show where he has stated he did edit the video. Then maybe you/me or anyone else can throw some mud his way. The thing that has caught my attention is the fact that the NAACP had the whole tape. So tell me if they were not trying to cut it off at the pass because they did not want everyone to think they agreed with the way the audience responded. The race card has been thrown around enough. I will give the NAACP props for not wanting that to be impression given.

Actually, FOX posted the false story on their "FOX Nation" blog at 1:40pm, hours before Sherrod resigned. If you're a wingnut you probably wouldn't have known that (unless you were reading the blog at the time) because FOX pulled it after the hoax was revealed, and never admitted on broadcast TV what they had done. The point that jeff and icrowe are trying to make is a correct one and it is a matter of semantics. Black folks can be just as bigoted and prejudiced as any of the rest of us foolish and weak human beings but until and unless that bigotry is coupled with control and denial of institutional resources, they can not be racist.

Cazenave and Maddern defines racism as “...a highly organized system of 'race'-based group privilege that operates at every level of society and is held together by a sophisticated ideology of color/'race' supremacy.

You are talking about Institutionalized Racism, racism can and does happen at all levels, whether it is institutionalized or not. ANY person or group of people can be racist, it matters not whether they have control or not. What matters is if the person or group sets themselves apart from other races based strictly upon race...That is racism, and it is all through this Nation and spread by groups focusing on the hatred instead of how we al manage to work together. If the media would get away from the negatives and focus on the positives there would be a lot less rampant racism on all sides!

I could go off and lable you a stupid white person, but because i have irish blood in me i just can't do that.

so i will ask one more time, what is your ethniticy. if you can have fun refering to the DNC and plantations, and Sorry Jeff.....try GOOGLE..."lbj quotes i'll have those n****** voting. its only fair that i know what you are. but i know that you will not answer just like farley did not, it shows that your have a problem with what you are, it shows me that you are ashamed of your family history. i on the other hand am not, I'm black but i have irish, american indian, african blood in me, and i'm proud of it. what is your blood line. what do you come from.

Oh okay. I get it now. Your play on words is meant to:

                                  A) denigrate the religion of roughly 20% of the world population and…

                                  B) insinuate that our President practices that religion despite the fact that no rational person could come to that conclusion.

Wow! You’ve managed to go beyond poor taste. Way to take it up a level to the realm of bigotry and ignorance!

I find it all very wierd. Growing up, I remember Republicans weren't so bad. They were educated. They were conservative. They still live among us, but they no longer have a party. Instead, the Republican Party is loaded with illiterates who believe in a Jesus that totes a machine gun and that they have to pay a death tax even though they don't have two nickels to rub together. It's loaded with gay men who hate themselves and who REALLY hate gay men that don't hate themselves. It is loaded with people who believe W is a "regular guy." It has everything but intelligent conservatives. Does anybody really see much of a difference between the Republican Party and the Tea Party?

Of course the Democrats are just as bad. I watched "Good Night & Good Luck" and noticed that the film focused on the evil deeds of only one of Joe McCarthy's pit bull attorneys, Roy Cohn. The film conveniently failed to note the other pit bull, Robert F. Kennedy.

Don't blame me. I voted for Nader who saved my life, and probably your life, or at least someone you know. Ever heard of seat belts? Do you want to fire up your Google-machine and scour the internets to find out what Ralph has been saying about BP all these years? Of course you don't, my fellow American, which is why you get the government you deserve. Too afraid to go into a private booth and vote against the encumbent. Home of the brave? Sure man, whatever...

Well there ya go, republicans care nothing about truth only the propaganda of their own views, why do you think Fox is successful, because they cater to right wingers beliefs rather than actual facts.

The conservative right never ceases to amaze me. Breitbart is just exposed as the filthy, hate-spewing, lying criminal that he is, and what does the RNC do?? Praise him!! Invite him as a guest speaker!! Absolutely amazing... I'm thinking that if they found a child-raping, neo-nazi, lynch-mobbing thug... if they could just get him to bash the President and his Party, then they'll dress the guy up like a hero and start throwing wads of cash at him. Breitbart... Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity, Coulter... they're all such disgusting, loathsome, hate-vomiting, horrible, miserable excuses for humans...

Kind of reminds me of the time when I was a kid and I was utterly amazed at the sight of a dead dog at the side of the road with maggots crawling out of its festering eye-sockets. I was stricken and marveled at how maggots will feed on ANYTHING, as long as they get their flesh-meal. The more disgusting the better. That TOTALLY reminds me of Republicans!!!

I don't take anyone who believes in superstitious deities seriously.  Which one do you imagine is in your head?  Zeus, Allah, or no, the GAWD of the Christian boogie stories!  I like your Christ but I don't like your Christians.  You're a perfect example of why the idea of a "Christian nation" is so abhorrent to rational Americans.

The point is: the Republican Party embraces scum like Breibart and is not ashamed or afraid of being associated with him.

                                      That's the point!

                                      HolyRoller,

If you "knew your Bible" you would not be making the statements you are making. Your name does no justice to the "Word of God." For God said to Love your enemy and if you have hate in you, you do not have Jesus Christ in you.
