The Charleston Daily Mail (WV) reports that GOP Rep. Shelley Moore Capito won't run in the special election for Robert Byrd's Senate seat, side-stepping what would have been a competitive contest against Gov. Joe Manchin (D), who is running for the seat.
Rep. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., will not run for the state's vacant U.S. Senate seat, she announced this morning... Capito gave several reasons for staying out of the race, including a possible legal challenge that could confuse an already confused process.
"There has been enough unnecessary chaos and controversy surrounding the vacancy in the U.S. Senate," she said in a statement released this morning. "My candidacy would create more uncertainty, invite a legal challenge, and misrepresent my priorities as a public servant."
Her announcement ends speculation that Capito and Manchin might have mounted one of the nastiest political campaigns ever run in the state.

I'm one very happy person in WV because GOP Rep. Shelley Moore Capito is not running for the Senate seat. Yoo Hoo!!!!!!
Since her father was governor for West Virginia and finally had to be put behind bars because he stole so much money from the citizens of this great state.
I have never trusted the Moore family.
Rep. Shelley Moore acts like she so much for this state but we know better.
I did not know this. Always good to hear from a West Virginia citizen to get the facts.
Cue the "Yeah, but Charlie Rangel...." people in 3..2..1...
TRR,
Did not know that. I do not not recall ever reading that piece of information. Thank you for the update.
Joe Manchin is a popular democratic Governor. His hands-on response to the mining disaster that killed so many elevated him to the national stage. Moore might make the race competitive but most likely would lose.
Tea Party and Bachmann. Bachmann is busy trying to convince folks that a TP caucus won't be just for republicans (no democrat would ever join no matter how many invitations she sends) or diminish its "grass roots" goals. The TP and republicans aren't happy about a House TP caucus--it might link TP candidates to being part of the problem they claim they are against! While on the surface that makes sense, they fail to see that those tea party candidate VIEWS ARE THEIR biggest problem and a House Tea Party Caucus will have little impact one way or the other. For democrats, a Tea Party Caucus just puts all the fringers in one place--it is easier to fight an enemy when you know how many there are. Bachmann, self-promoted leader of the House Tea Partiers, again steps in the doggy do-do.
Jody, well put. I chuckeled at each time you used TP to refer to the tea partiers. I thought of TP as in toilet paper and thought how appropriate. I love it when the TPers rant as it exposes their idiocy more and more causing Democrats to win even in areas that are traditionally Republican. Main stream Republicans don't like the TPers.
Adler, you are correct main stream republicans don't like tpers one bit, tpers are giving the gop in tennessee absolute fits. I think it is funny cause I always love it when they eat their own. Come general election time we won't have to spend much money to expose whoever their candidate is, they have already done it for us. All we have to do is show a picture of him with georgie and our last repugnant governor Don Sundquist at every commerical. that should just about do it.
Place a "W" next the Manchin and the Dems will hold this seat making it more difficult for the RepubliCANTS to take over the Senate in 2010.
Shelly Moore Capito will run successfully for governor of our state and then take Rockefeller's senate seat when he retires. Manchin is loved because he is conservative. If he follows the Obama road to corruption, he will lose that affection , because we are not a liberal state despite democrat officials.
As Perry Como might sing...."Dream along with me".
We were at one time until the people got scared that the Dem's were going to take their guns away. What's so funny about that..... I still have my guns and I'm a Democrat.

Thank you for the information. It is so imperative we have someone representing US in Congress who will bring US back to the 21st century and move US forward. Someting needs to be done about exploitation in the work place and the fight against unions.
According to a poll conducted by Hart Research Associates for (PFAW) People For the American Way revealed that Americans across the political spectrum are intensely concerned about corporate influence in our democracy and disagree with the Supreme Court’s decision in Citizens United v. FEC.
As I see it TRR, we need to put Karl Rove out of business and now is the time.

I'm not offended. The way to kick this fat, lying, tub of lard's, azz is to epose him each and every time. Can you believe now his fat azz is saying the white couple who defended her may be fake. Remember, it was Briebart's fat azz that claimed John Lewis lied about the "N" word and no tape exists to prove it.
I hope Shirley Sherrod sues that fat, lying, tub of lard, azzhat, Andrew Breitbart, along with the unrepentant bigots, Sean KKKlanity, Glenn Beck, and FOX NOISE et al for defamation of character and getting her fired. If she gets her job back she should go back to her. Although, she says she doesn't want to go back. She would be a role model of compassion and bring US into the 21st century. So should Van Jones.

I agree with you on Karl Rove and it is the time to put him out of business. I've never liked that man. He always has an evil look about him.
Thank you WV for telling us the truth about the Republicans' father who went to jail because the news media certainly won't.
Florida has the same issue with Rick Scott the fraudster who was CEO of HCA who was fined almost $Billion Dollars for defrauding the Medicare System, but we don't have to worry about the Media telling the truth.
Rick Scott's company HCA was fined $1.9 Billion Dollars by the DOJ fo defrauding Medicare and now he's running for GOV of FL after making millions and he's buying the race. Hopefully Floridians are smarter.
June, I hope they are smarter too, but don't count on it. Tennesseans were stupid enough (not me, never voted for him in my life) to send billy boy frist who has also had some HCA problems - more than we will ever know I'm sure. HCA is a pretty corrupt group and I would not go to one of their hospitals if I thought the entire stay would be free. Cause the medical care you get there is pretty crappy - I know, used to work for one of their original hospitals in Nashville, been a patient in them before, bad care, bad service, extreme cost. And they did defraud medicare in nashville too, my mother was a patient, they charged her medicare for a series of xrays that she did not have - she as actally out of town on the dates of service listed. Of course, they never got in trouble, cause that would have been bad exposure for billy boy - who is not even a good doctor.
I don't want Van Jones anywhere near this adminstration, but the honorable Ms Shirley Sherrod should be put in charge of the USDA. The clowns who harrassed her into an unjust, hurried and foolish resignation should both be immediately fired. How can you be in charge of an agency and not have the temperament to resist knee-jerk responses? Are policy decisions also being made with such little information and deliberation? This entire episode is a dreadful indication that something is severly wrong in this administration...
There is a definite problem at the USDA. Can you imagine working there now knowing what kind of support you will get from your boss(es)? If the NAACP and Vilsack did their job properly this would not have happened. FOX would have been exposed for what they are, AGAIN.
TRR, right on! We all remember Arch Moore and that may come back to haunte her someday.
TRR, I kinda figured she would'nt want That dirty laundry aired. Let's Not forget about the Drug $$ from the Preeces(Kermit,WV). That whole Family went to Prison because of thier connection to Capito's Father-inLaw, Arch Moore.
Mary Brown, evidently, you know Nothing of these facts. Capito is safe in Conservative district & she'll remain there until someone beats her out of it. The Facts mentioned above will keep her from pursueing Higher office.
You Betcha!
JoAnn Moundsville, WV and Rick, Ky
Isn't it funny how these things are always swept under the rug.
Arch Moore was prosecuted for corruption and pleaded guilty to five felony charges. He was sentenced to 5 years and 10 months in prison around 1990.
When he was released Moore was disbarred and forfeited his state pension and I think he had to pay like around $750,000.00 to the state.
I am no fan of either Congresswoman Capito or her father, Arch Moore, wouldn't vote for her on a bet, and never voted for her felon father. However, it is not fair to visit upon her the sins of her father. I disagree with her politics and am relieved that she will not threaten WV with a run for the Senate, but there is no indication that she is crooked or corrupt like her father. Stay on the issues, folks.

This administration should take this opportunity to stand up to FOX NOISE. REALLY, the FCC should take away Fox's licence. Look at all the violence and threats that is occuring because of it.

TRR, what was such a shame was that at one time Arch Moore was so well thought of and everyone loved him when he was a congressman. That all changed when he became Gov.
