Manchin to pick Goodwin

The Associated Press reports that West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin has picked Carte Goodwin, his former chief counsel, to fill the late Sen. Robert Byrd's seat until an election for the seat in November.

Manchin will announce his appointment at a 2 p.m. press conference at the state Capitol today.

That sounds like a winner since this guy worked as state director for Byrd's Democratic colleague, Sen. Jay Rockefeller. Maybe he can help get rid of that stupid filibuster.

I'm glad to see a poll showing Senator Reid up by 7 points. I would hate to lose that Senate seat. I have had my moments of anger at Senator Reid, but he is a decent man. Mature, soft-spoken, hard working. And I for one prefer that to the nuts on the right who are running this year.

Senator Reid behaves like a United States Senator. He carries himself with a tremendous amount of dignity considering the Senators he has to deal with - especially Mitchell McConnel and the other GOP members who have decided to sit this recession out. They're not even interested in lifting a finger to assist in putting forth legislation that is long overdue.

They've all decided to take a 4 year vacation. So Senator Reid, keep up the good work and here's hoping you come through in November. You deserve it. You've worked your tail off, unlike most of your "friends" in the Senate.

Agreed Pat!

I'll always be grateful to him for his heavy lifting and perseverance on HCR!

Although, I did lose my cool a couple of times in the process! In the end no one can take away the fact he delivered!

Glad you agree Feisty. If you sit back and look at the overall accomplishments with him, it's good. Very good. He is one of those Senators that you can depend on. Healthcare was a horrible time for him and I myself was pretty hard on him. But he's getting the 60 votes when he needs them, regardless of who, how, why. He's getting it done.

Thanks for making my day Pat. I'd also like to thank the tea-baggers for showing Nevada how crazy they are. First we had the chicken lady and now we have someone who likes to think raping your 13yr old daughter is the same as making lemonade. Harry was well and truly on his way to retirement before these two cuckoos came a a chirping.

Harry deserves to be re-elected and I hope Nevada does the right thing in November. The senate has enough crazies as it is.

Agreed, Pat. My areas of disagreement with Senator Reid were under the prior administration when (in my humble opinion) he caved too much to the prevailing wisdom. But he has done a lot lately and for that I'm grateful and a supporter.

So is it only denigrated as "poll dancing" when the polls are unfavorable to the administration or democratic candidates?

Pat, Boston:

Nice and safe way of putting it by stating you are glad Reid is up by 7 points and that you hoped that he came through in November.

I wouldn't call that using a poll to say that Reid was going to wipe out his opponent. I wouldn't call that accusing the right of poll dancing while quoting a poll to predict that Reid was going to crush Angle.

Roy Blunt wants to be Senator from Mo.

In his ad he does not state that he is a congressman or that he is a Republican!

FIRED UP AND READY TO GO!

He also doesn't say what he's going to do if he gets elected, just stop the spending, no specifics. My question is where was he in the congress when him and the Republicans were spending like there was no tomorrow? I'd bet he doesn't think the tax cuts for the rich need to be paid for either. Or the two wars he help start or the pork barrel spending him and the Republicans do to get reelected. His only cuts will be to the unemployed and SS and Medicare.

I guess the G-NO-P wants to use their cries of "Stop Blaming Bush" as an excuse for themselves to not run on their own records.

Yes, fellow Missourians, we have witnessed the rare transformation of a 12 year (six term) US Congressmen with absolutely NO record to run on. He's running FROM his record as fast and furious as he can. I'm telling you, with the trauma left behind by his idiot son, Matt, it will be a hard uphill climb for his 'win'. The oilman ads that were run earlier this year were priceless and we need way more of them!

What's in a Name? Rory Reid Will Find Out

The Democratic candidate for governor of Nevada is steering clear of dad, Senator Harry Reid, who's facing his own tough election fight

Rory Reid, the 48-year-old son of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, is running for governor of Nevada. You can just call him Rory.

The younger Reid knows the family name won't help him much this election year, even in his home state. Polls show that his father, 70, is struggling in his bid for a fifth term, with disapproval ratings hovering around 50 percent.

They are ALL politicians, whichever party they belong to. They use the same rhetoric and tactics. Just because I am more philosophically aligned with democrats doesn't mean I am blind to this political reality...
