As we've noted on First Read, "Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Michael Steele seemed likely to hold onto his job Tuesday after weathering a weekend of criticism from fellow Republicans," The Hill notes. That's mostly because of committee rules that make it difficult to oust a sitting chairman, there is just four months to go until the next party chairman election and "even Republicans critical of Steele have acknowledged it would be difficult to dump the party’s chairman four months ahead of a midterm election in which the GOP hopes to win back the House. Replacing Steele could throw the party’s infrastructure and fundraising establishment into disarray."
Outgoing Minnesota Gov. -- and potential 2012 presidential candidate -- Tim Pawlenty will travel to Iowa on July 31, Aug. 1, and Aug. 2 to campaign for GOP state legislative candidates. "Gov. Pawlenty is working hard to help conservatives around the country win this fall,” Pawlenty spokesman Alex Conant tells First Read. “We have great opportunities in Iowa, and Gov. Pawlenty is trying to build on that excitement through his new Iowa PAC and this upcoming trip to eastern Iowa."
"The upcoming vote on the Supreme Court nomination of former Harvard Law School dean Elena Kagan will present Republican Scott Brown with the most defining ideological test yet of his young Senate career, forcing him into a stark choice that is bound to anger some of his supporters no matter how he decides," the Boston Globe writes, adding: "If he supports her, Brown risks angering conservative activists across the country, an important source of campaign contributions. If he opposes such a highly accomplished woman with strong Massachusetts ties, the state’s independents, particularly women, may question his assertion that being a 'Scott Brown Republican' does not automatically mean toeing the GOP line."
And Levi Johnston is sorry... He tells People magazine: "After Bristol and I broke up, I was unhappy and a little angry. Unfortunately, against my better judgment, I publicly said things about the Palins that were not completely true. Since my statements were public, I owe it to the Palins to publicly apologize. So to the Palin family in general and to Sarah Palin in particular, please accept my regrets and forgive my youthful indiscretion. I hope one day to restore your trust."

Ok, so keep Steele in place and nominate Levi for the next head of the RNC. At least if HE spends money at a lesbian B&D club, it would be a bit more acceptable. lol.
So, how many seats are the GOP going to pick up in November?
"There are* just four months to to go..." As seemingly disappointing as the Democrats have been, recent comments by Steele and Boehner show just what a mistake it would be for America to bring the Republicans back into power so soon. Clearly, their leaders are out of touch with mainstream American perspective, riling up a base which comprises of Wall Street interests (nuclear bomb to an ant) and Tea Party radicals (nuclear bomb to an ant). I think if we want an effective Congress, it needs to be purged of status quo obstructionists to the policies we need to fix the economy and clean up the spill. That includes Dems like Chris Dodd (luckily retiring) and most of the Republican caucus. The Republican's hyperbolic rhetoric has poisoned any chance of bipartisanship or real, valuable ideas from their side- it's hard to work with the president when you're regularly calling him a Nazi.
Awwwww shucks Levi, Big Boy's don't CRY! The venom from the Alaskan Wild DingBat has you Shaken, it's not permanent unless your Ignorant.
Is there anyone who thinks Mikey knows what he's doing, besides Mikey? Did'nt I hear somewhere, where Karl Turdblossom Rove's group was rakeing in the $$ that would normally go to the RNC?
It would require a vote by 2/3 of the 168 members of the Rep Nat'l Committee to remove Michael Steele from office. Unlikely. He could resign, but that also seems unlikely. At this point, why should he bother and give up his health insurance? Maybe the Democrats should reach out to him and talk him into defecting? Also unlikely.
It is too funny that the dopes of nope can't ditch Wailing Old Woeman Michelle Steele because it would mean they made a mistake and they'd never admit to that. Plus if they get rid of him prematurely then they'll face charges of racism. Better believe that once December rolls around his head will be rolling off the repugnant one's chopping block. Michelle Steele is the repugnant one's black Joe Biden, a gaffe a day keeps the independents away.
Going to be fun watching to see how Pink Leather Shorts Brown votes on Elena Kagan's confirmation. He'll be committing political suicide if he votes for her or against her, he's in a lose-lose position.
My favorite thing about Steele is that he represents EVERYTHING that the publitards like to accuse president Obama of. The only reason Steele is where he is is because he is black. The pub's needed a black man to make their little bit of history because Obama won the presidency. Boom! Steele is made chairman.
President Obama shows again and again that he got where he is because he is highly intelligent, politically savvy, someone who considers all sides to a problem before launching, operates with concern and humility and he is very well spoken.
Steele comes across as a token who doesn't know his azzhole from a hole in the ground who shoots off his mouth before he ever considers what he is saying or that he really doesn't know what he is talking about. Further more, his stupidity is made far worse by his huge ego problems because he is the "hnic" and I don't mean that in a racist way. I think in private circles he may very well literally refer to himself as such.
Where president Obama is a credit to his race and a finger in the face to the racists, Steele is a DISCREDIT to his race and more ammo for the racists in this country. Leave it to the selfish, old, white dudes in DC to try to figure a way to undo something truly great that this country did in the election of our first black president and attempt to take away the grace with which our president handles himself and his business by propping Steele up in the public eye.
Personally, I LOVE it when someone says something like "Have you heard about what Steele did?" I LOVE IT! You know why? Because I know I'm about to get to enjoy another hee-larious political train wreck. He is the funniest guy in DC! He needs his own show right after the Daily Show. Just give him the mic and let him go. Mike Steele rocks! :)
The gross dishonesty of the Republican Party, aimed at manipulating and controlling public opinion while they stubbornly pursue their political ambitions, is disgusting and all that Bush-Cheney arrogantly did, with the full support of the Republican Party, was really criminal. Some simply choose to wear blinders and to accept the subterfuge that allows them to believe whatever they emotionally want to and then theirs’ is an irresponsibility that literally supports the total irresponsibility that has cost us so much. Hopefully they are just a minority so that everyone won’t have to suffer a return to ‘more of the same’ that got us all of the problems we have today.
Michael Steele, the token negro, a gift to the Democrats that just keeps on giving. Thanks Mr. Steele we love ya. Keep up the good work. Between you and Sarah we're having a great timel with the gifts you give us Democrats.
Michael Steele? Irrelevant, period. It was nothing but a sham by the GOP to elect him. Just a way to try and mimmick the election of President Obama. If he was really smart he would have told the Republican Party to p@#$ off when he was approached for the nomination.
I have always thought that everything the republican party has done has been in admiration of the Presidents election but they were not the first party to make that history and because of that they have had this corn cob stuck in the wrong place and it continues to rub and aggravate them to the point of pure blindness of the critical situation that the people of this country is faced with. Their pride and arrogance will not let them help the President nor Americans to get out of thisditch.
