The midterms: Tea Party targets Murkowski

"All aboard? The Tea Party Express' next stop is the Alaskan frontier," the New York Daily News writes. "That's because the grassroots conservative political movement is headed to Alaska, where Sarah Palin is backing Tea Partier Joe Miller against incumbent Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski. But it's not just Alaska. The tea party's next wave is sweeping across the country in more than a dozen primaries as Tea Party candidates are determined to overtake the GOP in nominations over the next few months. In states including Oklahoma, Kansas, Tennessee, Colorado, Arizona, Washington state and Florida, candidates are playing on the public's frustration with Washington, the staggering economy and the desire for new faces."

Stu Rothenberg: "An unusual number of Democratic candidates running this cycle are basing their victory scenarios on the existence of Independent or third-party candidates in their races. Are their hopes reasonable or are they merely grasping at straws? ... [M]ore often than not, Independents and third-party candidates see their support evaporate as Election Day approaches, as voters realize that a vote for an also-ran is a wasted vote." He has his doubts when it comes to Harry Reid in Nevada and others.

ARKANSAS: Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell will campaign with Rep. John Boozman, the GOP's Senate nominee, challenging incumbent Democrat Blanche Lincoln. McConnell's doing a fundraiser and a media roundtable.

CALIFORNIA: “The combination of [billionaire gubernatorial candidate Meg] Whitman's wealth and a distinct lack of energy by [Attorney General Jerry] Brown is making California Democrats nervous about their candidate's prospects in the fall," the L.A. Times writes, adding, "Whitman is saturating the airwaves with ads touting her economic focus and attacking Brown, and trying to woo Latino voters on Spanish-language television and radio. Although independent analysts have found that many of her allegations against Brown are inaccurate, the former governor has no plans to counter her by advertising soon.”

KENTUCKY: "Republican Rand Paul's opponent in the U.S. Senate race isn't the only one who thinks Paul compromised his stance against business as usual in Washington, D.C., by taking campaign cash at a high-dollar fund-raiser there last month. It rankled some Republicans, too," the Lexington Herald-Leader reports.

LOUISIANA: “Despite months of Democratic attacks on everything from his response to the Gulf oil spill to the criminal record of one of his Congressional staffers, Sen. David Vitter (R) continues to look strong in public polling and turn in million dollar fundraising quarters,” CQ writes.

NEW HAMPSHIRE: “An analysis from the watchdog website Factcheck.org concluded [Democratic Senate candidate Paul] Hodes was without basis to claim [Kelly] Ayotte had something to hide or engaged in a cover-up on the failure of state prosecutors to go after the Lakes Region Ponzi scheme,” the Nashua Telegraph writes.

WISCONSIN: The AP: "Add Russ Feingold to the list of Senate Democrats who find themselves in unexpectedly tough races, the latest evidence of the GOP's success in widening the playing field that President Barack Obama's party has to defend… Feingold, now in his third term, knows he has a fight on his hands. Never shy about showcasing his independent streak, he reiterated his splits with the White House and fellow Democrats on two key policies last week."

Midterms are interesting for the TEA Baggers... let's see, multiple choice so far... hmmmmm

A. Pragmatic Candidate

B. Intellectual Candidate

C. Crazy Right Winger

D. All of the above

Of course, the answer is C because it does not require thought and that's the way they are controlled, by answering to the norm.

TEA Baggers keep getting Fs based on their lack of free will to think independently.

Not surprised that the Wasilla Hillbilly would back some tea bagging clown as she and Murky Murkowski have had a rightwing cat fight going on for years. Sinister Sarah Palin backs the most disgusting radical subversive conservative criminal huggers. We'll see how the tea bagging prancers do come November as real America just says no to these facist racist extremist domestic terrorists who want to destroy our Secular Democracy.

Despite all the personal money Old Nag Twitwoman has poured into the race she's oversaturating the airwaves and she'll overadvertise herself to defeat this November. California doesn't need this EBay Porn Queen trashing our state more than Idiot Arnold already has.

One has to wonder if Sarah was really so concerned for the future of AK, would it not have been better to finish out her term as Gov? She would have had a lot more clout to influence the election back home if she was actually still relevant as a politician. Being a half-Governor does nothing for her Bona Fides and throwing her "support" behind the most extreme and questionable candidates the Tea Party has to offer is questionable political strategy at best.

Yes, it would serve Palin well come Primary time for the GOP as the extreme base is willing to warmly embrace the positions espoused by these fringe candidates. Once the primaries are over (much as we see now in NV and KY for instance), we see candidates that the base loves but that will be excoriated in the general election by the center and left. All but the most extreme GOP base constituents will also shun these candidates as their positions only appeal to about a third of the GOP and MAYBE 2 or 3% of the rest of the country. That equation does not (to me at least) seem to indicate a large electoral change in November. I could be wrong of course, but for the sake of America, let's hope I am spot on in this regard...

I whole heartedly agree with your comment 100% , the tea party seems to always tout "wait until November" well I have news for them, I TOO CANNOT WAIT UNTIL NOVEMBER!!!!!! We will see who shows up to vote, if you think that this country is willing to sit idily by and let your loonatic fringe take control of this country you have sadly under estimated the voting public, talk is cheap, I will speak at the polls, as will millions of Americans! This election will be about choices, and I for one choose not to go backwards, and trust me I do not stand alone!!

I am also from Pennsylvania and concerned with the GOP choice to go with Tea Party candidates that seem to only have to claim separation from Washington, and state that they are the true Americans to run. I don't think your 2-3% number is correct however. Listening to talk radio, as well as reading comments in the paper, it seems to me that this push for ultra righ conservitives more like 40-45%, and very vocal. They also don't let facts get in the way of their beliefs. Remember, things have gone wrong and the world seems to them, doomed. They are shouting out to the ones they blame for all of this, liberals/ progressives. The Limbaughs, Hannitys, Becks, and Palins have earned their paychecks

Sure laugh all you like, I know that Georgia is a red state, but trust me i will cast my vote in November and i will be smiling all the way to the ballot box!! You sit and listen to the pundits all you like, all i am saying is that " I will vote"! This misconception that Dem's are not as fired up as the tea party will be thouroughly debunked. Sure we are not protesting in the street and acting like an uniformed lunatic, but trust me come November we will show up at the polls and we will be heard! If you think that there are more of you out there in "lala land" then the sane voting public then i say again you have grossly under estimated the voting public! This will not be about Dem v Repub, this will be about sane solutions vs insane propaganda. You are banking on Dems being complacent and staying home, all i am saying is THINK AGAIN!!!!!!!!!

          Proud,

Much has been said on both sides. What I think is lacking from you is a substantive and logical position that is supported by facts and your reasoning for reaching your conclusion. We all know you have an opinion. What would be helpful to know is WHY you hold that opinion.

Until someone from the opposite side of the political spectrum is willing to come forward and provide more justification for their viciously held opinions other than "I heard Rush or Glen say it", we tend to discount and ignore what is said. We have opinions too. We all know we all disagree on pretty much any issue. We do not need a debate or public discourse to determine this. What we DO need to do is be willing and ABLE to provide the reasoning BEHIND our opinions and WHY we feel the way we do.

If nobody is willing to come forward with an opposing position AND a justification for why they believe I should feel the way they do, get the hell out of my way and stop clouding up the airwaves and the internet with your useless blather. I am here looking to better my understanding of ALL sides of the issues, not just the ones that are force fed to me because it is convenient.

People need to do more reasoned thinking and FACT gathering before reaching some half-cocked position and then bleating it all over the internet like their opinions actually mean something. Opinions can and DO mean something. But ONLY when supported by a logical and reasoned argument. I may still decide not to buy into your arguments, but I would at least like to know what they are. I know you all think Obama is the devil incarnate, but I want to know WHY. And, I want to know more than just the banal talking point lists that are thrown out like "he is a socialist" and all that rot. If you believe that (I pity you but that is another issue), fine. Give me REAL and FACTUAL examples of what HE has done that make you think he IS a socialist. If you are unwilling and/or unable to do so, please do us all a favor and STFU and let those of us that want to DISCUSS the issues do so. If you want to play sophomoric games and hurl epithets at each other and proudly proclaim that you are too stupid to know WHY you believe something, please feel free to do so but be kind enough to do it elsewhere. The adults are trying to hod a meaningful conversation.

          Jesse,

Thanks for your little drive by post. If you want to be taken seriously here, how about you stop back in and actually provide some reasoning for WHY you believe your opinions to be accurate. Maybe, just maybe, if you make a compelling enough argument, you might convince some of us to your way of thinking.

On the other hand, if you want to be dismissed immediately as someone with nothing to offer but a drive by shot at "liberuls" or whatever, continue as you have been unabated.

Case in point, what a trivial and juvenile statement to make! What on earth is their to fear from a Gov. who couldn't even run her own state and for the life of her cannot complete a coherent sentence! This is what i mean by grossly under estimating the voting public, if Sarah Palin is what you have offer as a solution to Americas problems then we can't even begin to have a serious conversation, and therfore no need to waste anymore of my time corresponding to you! These are serious times in America and it calls for serious solutions, stop with the childs play and leave the Governing to the ADULTS!!! moron!

You also repeat the Fox lies carlyssman. In reality NBC and MSNBC combined have more viewers than Fox lies and Fox combined, if you would ever listen to something other than Fox you woudn't sound like an idiot. And if there ever was a one sided station it's Fox. The rest of the media outlets are calling Fox an arm of the republican party.

YUP, Eric from Salinsanity, There will be new faces , even yours might not be there , but who knows if you become a member of the Tea Party you can have all the faces and rights. Yup, those RINOS who have been cavorting with Disastocrats all these years will soon find themselves gone. The Tea Party is a movement from the People. Our parents, uncles, nephews, nieces, sisters, brothers, in-laws, out-laws, grandfathers, grandmothers, fathers, mothers, child mothers, dead beats, professionals, elites, aspiring politicians, youths, even toddlers, machinists, blue collars, white collars, great gandmothers and fathers, sweethearts, boy friends, neighbors, teachers, civil servants, judges, police, firemen, army, workers from all industries and conservatives. Yup , you Disastocrats, that refusal to keep the oil from the shores of Dixie has sealed the fate of the Anonited One.

It never ceases to amaze me that Juven can manage to find a way to get past the obstacles his mother keeps putting in his path to prevent him from escaping the asylum. I mean, the straight jacket did not work. The psychotropic medications require such massive doses to achieve therapeutic levels that the doctors gave up. Maybe a lobotomy would help?

Ah yes. I remember that famous saying... "I would rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy"...

Jesse, That's all these Govt run economy writers can say. They dub everyone racists when they can't argue a point. But they never told anyone that Byrd was a KKK top echelon member for most of his life. They hid that fact for many years. What they are nervous about is that their hold on Blacks and Minority voters are moving over very fast to the Tea Party movement. Even the RINOS are nervous just like the Disastrocrats. But tell me, lets be practical. Who in their right mind would vote for the Disastrcrats after what we've been through? No wonder Wall ST is pulling out their donors from the DINOS treasure house.
