FL-SEN: Talk about an October surprise

The trial for former Florida GOP chairman Jim Greer will kick off Oct. 18th, just two weeks before Election Day.

Talk about an October surprise, Charlie Crist...

The St. Petersburg Times:

An Orange County judge on Thursday set an October trial date for the ousted former chairman of the Republican Party of Florida. The trial of Jim Greer on theft, fraud and money laundering charges is to begin Oct. 18. Greer, who has pleaded not guilty, wasn't at the hearing. Neither were his attorneys.

Greer, 48, who lives in Oviedo in nearby Seminole County, was the head of the state GOP for three years until his forced resignation this past January.

Am I the only liberal who's hoping Charlies wins in November?

After the way the Republican'ts have treated him there isn't a snowballs chance in hell that he'll caucus with the right wing nuts!

Right again Feisty: I hope Charlie wins in November. One good independent is better than a blue dog any day.

Feisty, you are not the only one. I have said that I prefer Crist over Rubio. If Meeks doesn't win then Crist is the only logical choice. I agree with Ron also. I too believe that he will caucus with the democrats if elected.

I respect him for standing with the President when he voted for the stimulus and showed that he cared for the people of Florida and the states well-being.

Feisty,

I hope so. Can we trade him for Ben Nelson?

Give Democrats THANKS for all the benefits you received as a veteran. If Republicans had their way, they would have fed you Arsenic for benefits.

You got that one right!!! All that the repugs do is wrap themselves in the flag in public then burn it the moment the cameras die.

Count me in also, Feisty. Crist would fit well in the Democratic caucus. Toward the conservative end of that caucus of course, but it's one more example of how the tent is much bigger on the Democratic side of the aisle than the Republican side.

Keep dreaming, Crist is a Republican, but you all can dream.

Jake... Last time I checked Christ is an INDEPENDENT....

      Thanks for playing!

Claim him if you like Jake, but Crist has been forced out of his own party as not being sufficiently Conservative. Apparently the rest of the party isn't as fond of him as are you.

No you're not. I think Crist understands what is best for America rather than global corporations and political epithets.

Theft, fraud and money laundering? Don't worry Jimmy, those raps are easy to beat. Lemme know if you need anything, I can send Legs, Louie, Icepick and Johnny Tightlips down to confer with the prosecuting attorney. I'll just remind him that I don't get mad, I get stabby.

I've been in and out pretty quickly today as I'm v. busy. Has anyone heard from In the Middle? He's from Texas isn't he? The last I heard (v. early this morning) was that they missed a hurricane, which is good news if it has held off.

Beverly in Chicago, I'm so happy to see you back!

Crist is way way way better than Rubio. 100% better. The Democratic candidate in FL is a good democrat, some say "too liberal" but it doesn't matter at this point as he's not picking up any traction whatsoever.

            Pat...

Haven't really noticed if ITM is here today. Should be fine. Texas dodged most of the wind and storm surge, but they do have some pretty major flooding to deal with. Last I checked, there were no major injuries or deaths in the US. This is going to be a looooong hurricane season.

Thanks Frank. He's usually here so I was wondering if they were okay in Texas.

I said it from the start...we made a mistake in alienating Charlie Crist. Had he won the Republican nominee, the seat would have been a lock for the GOP. Sure, he may have "only" voted the party line 80% of the time instead of 98%...but good grief, isn't that better than a Dem who votes the way you want 10% of the time...or a now-alienated Charlie Crist who as an independent may only vote with you 50%. Again...if you want to nominate a "tea party" style Republican in Montana, Utah, Mississippi, South Carolina, etc, fine. But that isn't going to work in a swing state. We were NOT smart here!

Thanks for the thoughts from the other side Grimey! ;0) You got my vote!

They truly did the Democrats a HUGE favor by shunning him!

I haven't been on the internet for awhile because I have been watching the World Cup tournament. Because I work, I had to record the games so didn't want to go on the internet in case I saw the results of the matches. To be honest, it's been a very nice break.

Anyway, there are no games today so I decided to take a peak at First Read. I see Bonehead is still his usual idiotic self and the right-wing fringe are still their looney selves. In fact, nothing has changed at all.

Charlie Crist is one of the good guys and I was so happy when he decided to run as an independent. The right-wingers thought they had Florida in the bag with Rubio, but things have changed and Charlie is the one sitting pretty. In fact, he seems to be the only governor that is making any sense regarding the oil spill.

            GO CHARLIE

Theft, fraud and money laudering? Jimmy, you'll beat those raps. I can send Legs, Icepick, Louie and Johnny Tightlips to Florida for a little meeting with the prosecuting attorney. Be like me Jimmy, I don't get mad, I get stabby.

You guys must be kidding..Charlie Crist put a friend who agreed not to run, in the senate seat he wants, as a place holder until the election.Talk about taking the voters of Florida for granted. He thought he would just roll into DC on a carpet without any problems. Then he cuts taxes during the worst econmic recession since the depression, such a genius this Charley Crist is. My taxes were reduced all of $12.00. Twelve dollars times everyone elses reduced taxes would have certainly helped the state more than me. Now Education budget is cut to all subdivisions. Yea, this Charlie Crist is a real genius.

Hay, If you are from Illinois who cares what you think. You have your own geniuses in Chicago. How is that trial going. Do not get involved with Florida.

Is their anyone who wants to return Bonehead Boner, Eric the Whinner Cantor, Bachman that crazy B--- to power.  Granted, the democrats are not much better, but to return to the same group that took a 230 billion dollar surplus into a 2 trillion dollar deficit would be insane.  The republican party today is a poor excuse for a political party.  They have no ideas except more tax cuts for the wealthy and more wars to be gotten into.  They turn down unemployment benefits for american people, saying their children and grandchildren will have to pay for them but when it comes to war funding or them wanting to extend the Bujsh's tax cuts you never hear a word from them about how their children and grandchildren will have too pay for that.  Biggest bunch of Hypocrits and the mother and father of all liars.
