Obama's local stop

AP

President Obama, accompanied by Racine Mayor John Dickert, tries a pecan kringle during an unscheduled stop at O and H Bakery in Racine.

President Obama is in Racine, Wisc., talking now about the economy and will make some choice remarks on Republicans. But before the speech, like a candidate, he stopped off for some local grub.

This time, it was a pastry called a kringle (pictured right).

NBC's Ellie Hall adds: According to this (very old) NY Times article, Racine is one biggest centers of Danish culture in America. The bakery Obama visited today is mentioned in the piece.

Here's AP's report:

The rap on President Barack Obama is that he doesn't show enough emotion. But on Wednesday, a pastry made him happy. En route to a town hall event on the economy, Obama made a surprise detour to O&H Danish Bakery, purveyor of a delicacy called a kringle -- a large round flat pastry with a hole in the middle. Obama walked in with his jacket off and sleeves rolled up and shook hands with the dozen patrons in the store. He sampled a pecan kringle, proclaimed it "outstanding" and added: "It makes you happy."

He ordered one pecan and one cherry. A saleswoman recommended the cheese as well, so he said, "Let's get a third!" He insisted on paying full price -- $7.45 each.

          Yum, they sound delicious.

I'm watching him right now and he is giving a great speech. His sense of what the ordinary people need to hear and what plans are being worked on is spot on. The crowd is loving it. John Boehner is out of touch and he is being presented as such. Now he is on Joe Barton's case.

            Yumm, I love kringle.

Those complaining about Obama being human and that he is mingling with the riff raff, I mean ordinary people were dead silent when their lover Bush did the same thing. Such hypocrisy the world has never known.

Correct Auntie, plus he always made sure the crowd was "chosen" by the gop. That is why for several years it appeared more people liked him insted of how many really did not.

I love those who think that criticizing the current president/administration implies a love for the former one...and this was a criticism of the STORY, not your "boyfriend", to use your own ill-advised characterization...

Bush couldn't admit to a single mistake...

The cheerleaders here can't handle even the mildest criticism of this administration without going to defcon 4...

At what point is it correct to ask when this man is actually going to do the job he was elected to do? If he isn't making a fool of himself internationally, having a private concert, playing golf, attending a fundraiser, or meeting with athletes, he's having a photo op.

PUMA was an acronym, standing for Party Unity My Ass! It referred to Democrats (supposedly) in 2008 who wanted Hillary Clinton to fight long after fighting was prudent and long after the issue was in doubt.

dangerfield - There are a few cheerleaders in here who think Obama can do no wrong. I saw your post about Obama's shortcomings in continuing Bush's failed policies. I agree with you on some of them as well. I don't know why he continues Bush's foreign policy disasters in Iraq and Afganistan. He also continues to subvert civil liberty issues like GWB did and Obama hasn't addressed social issues as well as I would like. BUT to be fair he isn't getting enough backing from Congress.

It is depressing that with a supermajority in both houses for nearly a year the Democrats failed to do more on Healthcare. I didn't blame that debacle on the republicans. I blame the sell outs like Ben Nelson, Blanche Lincoln, Max Baucus, No Lieberman etc.

I'm new to this blog. There appear to be some who post thoughtful and insightful comments. Others post sparingly or just chime in now and again. Others bombastically spew venom from both sides of the spectrum. Those I don't like. I do think there is room in here for everyone.

Concerning Obama's policies, You don't know how many times I've thought to myself, Why did he do that? That is strike two for you Mr. President. Believe me in my book he has had a lot of strike two's. However, he is the best we got and hopefully he will get better.

As a moderate/independent, I fully expect to "get hit" from those on both extremes here. It isn't the president's policies that cause me consternation, but the difference between the candidate's rhetoric and the executive's. That, and the piss-water thin 2,000 page "bills" that are lauded as landmark legislation long before they take effect and we begin to see the consequences in the real world...Blue dog, yellow dog, expect to be treated like a ...well, you get it...

Anywhere a POTUS, D or R, attends, IT WILL BE SCRUBBED. You would have to be a damn fool as POTUS to just walk into your everyday store without the SS peeping the joint out.
