Subscribe to RSSMary Ann Ahern of the local NBC affiliate in Chicago has the skinny from Illinois GOP Senate nominee Mark Kirk's press conference today (hat tip: Ben Smith).
In what must have been his longest, widest-ranging press event to date, Rep. Mark Kirk stood alongside several veterans at the Northbrook Renaissance Hotel and answered every question thrown at him by reporters.
Which is not to say reports were satisified with the answers.
On the point of most interest -- why he embellished his record and why he was avoiding the media -- Kirk said he would rectify his availability, but didn't issue any apologies or further clarifications.
"I was overbooked last week," Kirk said, by way of explaining why he wasn't available. As for his embellishments -- 10 at last count -- Kirk said the "scrutiny was appropriate" and that he "wasn't thinking" when he misstated his record.

Mark Kirk : "I Wasn't Thinking." Now, is that an obvious statement or What?? He obviously was not thinking anywhere along the line, except for his own advancement and all of those lies had to be thought up somewhere: Disd he let Rush/Beck do his thinking for him and just spouted off?? Mark Kirk "not thinking" is bad. But politics is a "relative" kind of game. You see, Kirk is running against Alexi Ginnoulias, and relative to Ginnoulias. Kirk is close to being a saint. You see, Alexi was the Chief Loan Officer at a bank that lent money to known Chicago mobsters, like Obama's good friend and neighbor Tony Rezko, that ultimately saw the bank go under and be taken over by the feds. So maybe that will be Alexi's excuse too when asked about the bad loans he made that caused his bank to go under, Alexi will say he "Wasn't thinking".

Tony rezko was NOT barack obama's neighbor or friend. Tony Rezko's wife was a realitor and bought a piece of land next door, in which Barack bought that small peice of land next to his house.
Rezko's wife found out the Obama's were buying the house and she got that land next to it and sold it to them a few months later.
Barack obama when he worked for a law firm did some work as a young lawyer for Rezko. I'm sick of people saying things that are WRONG to suit there selves.
Why is being someone's 'neighbor' a connotation of anything anyway? I live in an apartment complex, which means I'm probably surrounded by hundreds of neighbors.
I've met maybe 3 people since I moved in last December and have actually had more than a 5 minute conversation with exactly 1 of them.

I'm sure you have noticed more people on section 8 in the burbs. they closed Robert Taylor, state way, and Cabrini green. I'm sure you have noticed a increase in crime out you way as well. instead of screening these people out, they dumped them like trash.
Gosh, this is funny. Funnier still is that Festery agrees. Notice that Jeff leaves out a very important point, that the Rezco's sold the land for under their cost. Gee, nothing going on there, a known crook selling land for under cost to maybe get a favor or two from a politician? Nah, that wouldn't happen. And then if Rezco's and Obama's bought property next to each other, wouldn't that make them neighbors? Not in Jeff's world I guess. And Rezco and Obama met in 1990 and did deals for low-income homes up until 2003 when Rezco had a huge fundrasier for Obama when he ran for the US Senate. Nah, no friends there either.
And Festery, still waiting for those "deep thoughts" of yours. The next one will be the first one. I'd say you were dumb Festery, but that would offend dumb people.

That cop was killed in my old neighborhood. the park he was near is called cole park after Nat King Cole. in the 50s majalia Jackson lived there as well as john johnson (ebony Jet) i use to spend my summers there playing ball till all times of night and we had nothen to fear. Now the shooting are every weekend. i tell you girl its sad.

That whole incident was WRONG on SO many levels! That's what I don't understand... here was a cop that was giving BACK to the neighborhood and is gunned down in cold blood for his motorcycle!

Because it isn't true. Rezko's wife bought the lot for $625,000, then sold a strip of it, one sixth of the plot, to the Obamas for $104,500. If you can do the math you'll see that comes to one sixth of the total value of the lot. She later sold the rest of the lot for $575,000, netting about $50,000 profit on the whole deal.
But don't let the facts get in your way.

these 4 kids saw him leaving his parents house and rushed him guns drawn, and started shooting, he never had a chance to anounce he was a cop let alone pull his wepond. thank god his father a retired sergent saw what was going on, he killed one and wounded another. if there is no hand gun band these kids who tried to rob this guy on a dare would have though twice.

In my opinion There is no respect to be had for those who lie about their Military Service period. In doing so they dishonor all those that gave their lives to protect this country so morally corrupt politicians like Kirk can spit out their lies. They also dishonor all our current Military as well. Also if he lied about this, what else is he lying about??

As a veteran and one who actually DID serve in Vietnam, Blumenthal's misleading comments about his non-existent service in-country is more troubling to me personally than Kirk's misrepresentations.
However, the service of both deserves respect, embellishments aside.
Of course, you're welcome to your own opinion.

Mark Kirk is a LIAR! I was in the military for many years and any genuine military person will tell you they know EXACTLY what awards they win. They are NEVER confused about orders or awards. Mark Kirk did not make 'an error' or ' a mistake'. He calculated you Americans are so stupid that he could get away with a LIE, knowing, if discovered you would swallow a lame explanation of 'mistake or error'.
When are Americans going to wake up and stop electing, greasy, oily LIARS? This is why our country is so screwed up! We keep electing the scum of the earth to represent us. Why, therefore, are Americans so astonished when the high ideals they expect of the government are replaced with corruption, and utter incompetence? It is because we are electing dishonest LIARS. We have screwed up an entire ocean because we keep electing LIARS! STOP ACCEPTING LIARS AND THEIR LAMEASSED EXCUSES WHEN THEY ARE CAUGHT LYING! They are scum and should not be let near a political office.
People need to start monitoring the activities of those who are actually picking and vetting the candidates locally. These are the real slimy puppet masters of politics. They are the ones who make it possible for a Mark Kirk or Alex Giannoulias run or even an ignorant ex-con like Green down in South Carolina. You rant and scream uselessly about the candidates and never think of who it is that put them up for election in the first place. Local bosses and juntas of the Republican and Democratic political parties are your real villains. It is they who keep putting up trash and vermin to run for public office, because they know they can control dishonest liars and crooks. They have control problems if the candidate is actually honest and clean. If Americans want to fix their political systems, they are going to have to look really hard at who is controlling the parties locally and fight against corruption there.
