NEW ORLEANS -- Vice President Biden has arrived here to see, first hand, the response efforts in his first trip to the Gulf Coast region since the BP oil rig disaster.
Biden was greeted at the airport by Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) and Rep. Joseph Cao (R).
As he waited for Biden to arrive, Jindal -- in an exclusive on-camera interview with NBC News this morning -- said his message to the vice president is that the federal government "needs a greater sense of urgency" and that it needs to treat the disaster "like a war and either lead or get out of the way."
Jindal said he's "thrilled" Biden is making the trip, but added he's frustrated that bureaucratic "red tape" with the permitting process has delayed efforts to narrow the coastal passes to prevent more oil from reaching Louisiana's shores.
Jindal says he wants to see more skimmers ahead of the storm brewing in the Gulf, which he warns will send waves of oil towards the coastline.
Jindal's other message to Biden, he says, is to get clarity on how workers looking to make claims as a result of the offshore moratorium can be compensated.

Jindal -- in an exclusive on-camera interview with NBC News this morning -- said his message to the vice president is that the federal government "needs a greater sense of urgency" and that it needs to treat the disaster "like a war and either lead or get out of the way."
Well then Piyush, why don't YOU deploy the 6,000 National Guard troops that you have at your disposal to show that YOU have a sufficient sense of urgency? Funny how you talk about this being a "war" yet the Louisiana National Guard sits on the sidelines. Maybe it is time to quit talking about "prayer" and deploy the full resources of the State of Louisiana, instead of waiting for the Feds.
Hey, Comrades you and your govt own this oil spill that is hitting our shores. So don't try to wriggle out of it. That oil spill should never have reached the shore but for Oilbama and his Unions. He was negotiating to hire them to do the clean up. Now, you Disastocrats are trying to avoid the blame. Can't happen. BP is to blame for the gusher but it is Oilbama and the govt is responsible for stopping the oil from reaching the coast and killing the wildlife. They failed. Just like how Bush failed so did Oilbama. They will be thrown out of their position come November. The American people are not stupid. and they are damn angry.
If the american people put the GOBP back in charge of Congress, then we are stupid and get what we deserve.
You only have to mess over me once for me to get the point. I wouldn't vote GOBP if they were running against real communist or socialist.
Juvenile, grow up and figure out who REALLY is to blame for that spill, it is BP, theGOBP and Bush that put us where we are with regards to the deregulation that allowed this to happen. The response problems have occurred because the States on the Gulf believed the word of the Oil Cos and failed in THEIR DUTY to plan their responses to such a spill. The states there don't even have reasonable plans for even a lesser spill, let along this 'worst case scenario'. Where has Jindal spent the $25M from BP, where are the 6K National Guard that President Obama authorized? Where is THEIR Response other than whining that the Federal Government, whom they have worked so hard at limiting, is not doing enough? Have they actually DONE ANYTHING?? From here I cannot tell a thing they have done other than point fingers instead of digging in and getting to work.
For that matter, what have YOU, Yourself, done to help? Have you come up with any workable ideas to stop the spill?? Have YOU hauled any boom?? Have you helped clean the beaches?? If not, quit yer complaining and be productive instead.
Most of America, if you actually ask them, is rather happy that Pres. Obama has made BP pay up front so that the victims wont have to wait 20-30 years before they get underpaid, and pay a lawyer on top of that. Pres. Obama has actually done more for this country, in 17 months, than the last 3 presidents together during all their terms. Get Real and Get Educated instead of just repeating the Faux Neuz talking points, you will look more intelligent and might even learn something!
Another Troll done Whacked!
Hey Juven:
When your states whore themselves out to the oil industry, sometimes you get spilled on.
Deal with it!
Jindal said he's "thrilled" Biden is making the trip, but added he's frustrated that bureaucratic "red tape" with the permitting process has delayed efforts to narrow the coastal passes to prevent more oil from reaching Louisiana's shores.

You are right Ron... Piyush is playing politics with his constituents lives & lively hood!
And in my book that makes him First Class Scumbag!
Feisty: Jindal is a scumbag: My yesterday's post was completely accurate. He has used only about 20% of the troops granted to him by President Obama. He used those troops, not to clean up the beaches and wetlands, but to keep reporters away from BP. Why Republicans would vote for him is a total mystry.
AL,
Good points, gets a vote. I have been asking why Jindal has not activated more National Guard Troops. To date I think he has activated about 1050 of the 6000 that President Obama allocated to him. The same situation is in the other state that got a 6000 allocation but only activate 58. Both are complaining about resources but do not even use what the President gave them. These people are not helping the Americans that the were elected to support. They are playing politics with their lively hood, the environment, their businesses etc and then blame the President for not doing enough. What is Jindal doing besides complaining.
Ron,
True, very true. The repugs have moved their battle plan of doing nothing, stopping everything the President tries to do, and then blame him for the lack of results down to the Gulf. It has to come to a head sooner or later as more people point out the lies and their own mismanagement. The President can not do everything.
Hi Feisty,
I have been watching the Kegan Express. She is holding her own and I think if she continues the repugs will look more petty at the end of the day. Same old repug methods. They keep interrupting her and Leahy has to put them in their places.
What's truly amazing to me is WHY the 'chowder-heads' continue to vote these clowns back in!
I reread the FR post and began to wonder. What did Biden tell Jindal? Joe isn't afraid to say it like it is. Wonder if he said, "Boddy, don't you think it's time to activate those troops we released for your disposal?" Don't you think it's time to stop playing politics and get this place cleaned up!"
Just wondering.
Jindal is doing what politicians do and playing politics and trying to get as much cash from the gov't as he can.
But just to keep it real, in this case he is saying that he is drastically short on skimmers. The national guard doesn't do skimmers. Skimmers keep the oil from ever reaching the shore which is what Jindal wants and it's the smart thing to do. He may be screwing up on shore, okay fine. But if he is b1tching about skimmers not being there, and I know we have a shortage around 'Bama too, the he can have 60,000 NG troops and it wont make a damn bit of difference.
And, not that I don't believe it's happening but, can someone point me to the investigative reporting piece that says Jindal is only using the NG troops to keep people off of the beaches? I remember hearing that local sheriffs were doing that a few weeks ago but this is the first I've heard of Jindal using the NG to do it. My gf and I regularly debate this stuff and I like to have my facts handy.
Agreed Ron. Everyone blames Obama and the federal government for the lack of media access to the spill and the clean up but Piyush could order Louisiana state and local law enforement to provide media access to the oil spill efforts on public lands. Why Piyush are you covering up for BP?
all you people from california and ill. you need to shut up booby is trying to sane our state an d way of life your jealous because yourstates are bankrupt, you have to sale pot to try and hepl, you worry about arizona instead of yourselves at least bobby is doing more than just putting up somes signs like obama, obama needs to let these skimmer boats in . countries have been trying to help sinse the second day of the spill but the gov, /obama coastgaurd keep getting in the way. hte leat of our problems is to be sure their is enough life jackets . everyone of you gripeing about what our gov. is doing need to take a long look at your own gov.
I didn't get a chance to talk to him at length, but someone in my office just came back from the Gulf, where he was there on business, and he said everyone he spoke to, thinks President Obama is doing a good job. They like him a great deal. He said they were awfully nice people.
He went to Seattle as well, and he received the same positive response out there.
Bear in mind, the Administration "wants" an ecological disaster. This way they can push their leftist agenda. The Administration can void, for a short time period, the ban on foreign vessels in order to allow the Dutch skimmers in.
"Never let a crisis go to waste" - Rahm Emmanuel, Obama Chief of Staff
What does it take to get the GOBP to quit spouting the same lies over and over.
To date, the administration has leveraged assets and skills from numerous foreign countries and international organizations as part of this historic, all-hands-on-deck response, including Canada, Germany, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, the United Nations’ International Maritime Organization and the European Union's Monitoring and Information Centre.

That is ridiculous! This Administration doesn't want this disaster any more than the last one wanted the 9/11 incident. The last Administration sure made hay out of 9/11 and to the max. Perhaps such things offer opportunities that otherwise wouldn't happen. Besides, what is wrong with a clean environment?
Too easy, jomama. Tape their mouths shut.
Hey Jommama. Where do you get this information? Is it updated regularly? Excuse my ignorance, I really would like to keep up with these numbers myself. Thanks. :)
M. Fisher, Go to the Deep Water Horizon Response website, this is the Coast Guard (Unified Command) site, lots and lots of good information.
Liberals on this blog are criticizing Jindal for what he is doing. Amazing!!! Of course liberal didn't politicize Katrina. Too funny!!!!
Haven't you heard? We're not supposed to mention Bush anymore.
Interesting that you would use the term "liberal" for calling out the governor for what he has not done. He claims the government is not doing enough when he himself has not used his own state's resources as well. Interesting indeed.
First Gov. Jindal says the federal government is into the business of big business too much and now they aren't into the business of big business enough. What a fool Jindal is.
Drive-by-observer,
Who mentioned Bush???
Axelrod, yesterday. Even the leftie press is getting tired of this and are starting to say Obama is in charge and needs to take responsibility. Obama even slipped Bush in during his speech in Toronto. Maybe that's what the reference was to.
Bobby Jindal is a fascist prick who lines his pockets with oil money
I remember Jindal totally against the stimulus bill, yet going around Louisiana having photo ops with the huge check in his hands, signed by him, and making a big deal out of the money "he" was giving away. Then Jindal loudly objected to big givernment, like all GOPers. That is until now when HE needs the government's help - and complains that the help isn't enough nor quick enough. How two-faced and self-absorbed Jindal and GOPers are! They need to finally accept the fact that we have a black, very smart and wise Democratic President, who is doing a great job under multiple horrid situations, and get over their hurt GOP egos. GOPers need to stop thinking of themselves and their ridiculous party and at last start thinking of our country and our people. Until then GOP, you won't have any respect from the majority of Americans until you grow up! And Jindal, maybe you could take a moment to at least thank President Obama for getting 20 billion dollars to help your people, state, and environment. Take a deep breath and realize that your/our government IS helping!
Biden visiting the gulf coast? Where in the world was he 70 odd days ago? Seems like this is the first time this 'Bite Me Biden' heard of the gulf oil disaster. I wonder what he was doing all these days? Just wondering. Why didn't he visit the coast when his boss was having a nice time partying? Here we have two top executives of the nation fiddling whilst the coast goes under the oil. Some sinister purpose is behind their absence. Hey disastocrats, if this was Bush's watch of being late for more than 4 days, I can imagine the hue and cry to lynch him. Of course ,you did that to him already.
Partying? Fiddling? What? It's quite obvious that you aren't paying attention. And yes, we are STILL and will for a LONG TIME be picking up the pieces of a neglected country thanks to your Bush.
Juven ~ Sigh. Where was BP those 70 days? What were they doing? What are they doing now? Do you even know?
Katrina is not the same event. In that case, there was no negligent actor who had directly caused the damage, and the Federal Government was the only entity with sufficient resources to respond to a multi-state crisis. Here we have a directly responsible private party -- or maybe two or three -- all of whom have sufficient resources to respond -- or at least they should have had before they took it upon themselves to drill that exploratory well. According to those who share your philosophy, the Federal Government shouldn't have had to insert itself into this particular disaster at all, much less right from the start. Self-regulation and the free market, not government, should have prevented this problem. And the private sector should solve it.
Or isn't that how it's supposed to work, Juven?
Anna Molly
I applaud your phrasing, you said it exactly. Juvenile is another Troll done been Whacked!
I have a request. Can we please stop using Piyush the same way Hussein was being used during the election and continues to be used? It is EXTREMELY childish and borders on racism.
Having said that... Bobby Jindal IS a blowhard, playing politics with the peoples lives and welfare is BS and I do like the point that Al made about the LNG.
You have a good point Steven - I see the difference as being President Obama embraces his middle name where as Bobby runs away from it like a little school girl.
Don't you wonder what the consummate master of hypocrisy would be saying if this were someone else's state?
Or wait. You already know.
Steven ~ I wonder what Jindal said about the use of "Hussein" when referring to the President. What goes around .... But if you insist, let's just concentrate on Beauregard Sessions. So much easier to pronounce derisively.
Charlotte Lady, You mean that you and the DINOS are not real socialist /communists?
Juvenile
You really need to go back to school, or maybe just keep up on your classes. If you dont like any socialism at all then you don't need to call the Police, Fire Departments, schools, Social Security, Medicare, Military or any of the very long list of services that this nation provides for the good of EVERYBODY in this Country. NOBODY is trying to turn this Country communist, that is a failed system and everybody knows it. Get away from the Faux Neuz talking points and you will sound a LOT more intelligent in your posts. Faux keeps telling the same old lies and those of us who do not drink the Koolaid of death from them have to keep rebutting the same ol same ol and ya know, it gets really boring after a while. Go do some real investigation, get some facts that are NOT from Faux, ones that are documented as fact and THEN come back to us, otherwise you are just going to continue to be another troll that has done been whacked yet AGAIN!
I am glad this governor had the balls to call 0 our jacka$$ of a president on his do- nothing politics. The handling of this spill by BP, and our president, along with his administration are criminal and should be treated as such. Whole species of marine/wildlife gone while these self absorbed boobs were at play. There are no punishments harsh enough for the irreversible damages done to our precious planet. Someone please tell me who our president is working for?? Certainly not America.

Seriously Gilbert... We GOT it the FIRST time!
Note to Gilbert - You only have to hit post comment (1) time... really... it's pretty simple!
