Many thanks to our hosts/moderators for another first-rate week @ FR! The new & improved format makes playing ‘whack a troll’ all the more effortless! lol

I am so enjoying the ‘Come November it will be a bloodbath for the Democrat’s chant’ from the right wing nuts! Said it before and I’ll say it again – November will be nothing more than a paper cut for the Democrats! We will lose a few seats BUT retain the majority in BOTH the House & Senate!

When you have candidates like Rand Paul, Sharon Engle & Marco Rubio running their mouths off… Anyone with an IQ higher than a turnip is going to distance themselves as far away from those tea bagging lunatics as possible!

Then you have Joe (I apologize BP) Barton who happens to be the biggest oil whore out there! Who was it yesterday that referred to him as a ‘pump’? Appears he’s the go to guy for the GEENOPEER’S to fill their tanks full of BIG oil cash!

Nice job this week progressives at keeping the truth out front & center! When I worked on the Obama campaign ALL I asked of people was to do some research regardless who their preference was and take EVERYTHING the media reports with a ‘grain of salt’.

Education sends the right wingers howling like vampires hosed in holy water! Better to keep the ‘Hobo’s’ stuck on stupid and voting against their own best interests!

And remember… What’s a Republican’t done to enhance you life today?

Oh and Special SHOUT OUT to Mark Murray for your thoughtful & reasoned remarks on immigration earlier with Tamara Hall (who btw I LOVE – she used to work here in the Chgo market so tell her I’m still a fan if you chance will ya?)

Fiesty-sorry it took so long to respond.

I have NO IDEA what was up with the ginormous font-it was something my computer did on its own, and I couldn't undo it. Gremlins, I guess. Friday was that kind of day.

If you want a laugh, read on.

I had 'la principessa bella' with me for two hours while her mother ran errands. That was enough time for her to, uh, relieve herself-in a diaper that was not really attached all that well. We were sitting on the white sofa in the living room-with my big, beautiful Maine Coon, who adores the baby.

So, first I washed the baby-twice-then, I started to clean the sofa, when I realized that my big guy was also 'wearing the evidence'. That meant that HE needed a bath. (Luckily, 'Coons love water.)

Anyway, we get everybody and everything clean, Mom comes back, and off I go to run errands. They hired a new worker at the fish store, (becomes relavent later), and I'm heading home when the car begins to stall out. On the road. I get restarted-same thing. Make it to the gas station, leave the car, call the husband-not home. Okay, I'll go into the butcher shop, and ask the butcher for a ride home. I walk in, the bottom of the bag collapses, so now my fish, shrimp, and lemons are all over the floor-new worker does not realized that shrimp needs to be in a plastic bag, or it leaks.

I bought some steaks, got home, and made myself a DRINK. (Well, it was only lemonade-I can't have alcohol for obvious reasons.) Then, I logged on, and the gremlins made the post scream. What a day. Not tragic, but, whew!

    LMAO NoJo!

Agreed Friday was ONE of those days! As for the princess's escapades I don't know a Mom or Grama who hasn't experienced that particular pleasure! :0)

Nice to hear your Maine Coon likes H20 as mine HATES it!

Hope the rest of your weekend goes better!

No Jo, sounds like the only thing that could turn your week around is if Obama resigned this week.

tee hee,...I couldn't resist. Hope things start looking up! My father in law used to insist on changing the diapers without the new one 'on deck' as it were. Talk about some nasty messes. But a white couch? What are you thinking?

Nice video guys. I am ready to go tomorrow. I've already know which watering hole I'm headed to, I've got my US Soccer jersey, now all I'm missing is the red, white, and blue vuvuzela!!! Enjoy the game Domenico and hopefully we'll have something to celebrate!!

Have a great weekend everyone! If you need me, I'll be on Clematis Street with drink in hand!

        Feisty and Clara,

And you two ladies do it so well. Have a great weekend, stay safe. Kudos to the moderators, any great week and I did not get blooded too bad. Only one real turkey but he exposed himself at the end when he referred to President Obama by his middle name. He got mad at me on my post about what the Repugs did for America this week. He did not like repug or teabagger. Sorry, but they called themselves tea baggers before we did and if they continue to do things that find morally and ethically repugnant (like supporting BP, throwing 1M Americans into the street and call the Hobo's, etc) I am going to call them a repug. Takes to long to type the whole word.

Sara Palin Crashes in latest Wallstreet Journal Poll

The latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll revealed that the more the American people see Sarah Palin, the less they like her. Palin’s approval rating has now crashed to 29%, which is down from 37% in March. Palin is also dragging down the GOP’s 2010 candidates, as her endorsement was viewed as a negative by 52% of those surveyed.

According to the latest NBC News/WSJ poll, Palin’s approval rating has fallen to 29%. Her disapproval rating is 43%, and 24% of those surveyed are neutral on her. Only 13% of those surveyed have a strong approval of her. She is down from her 30% approval rating in March, and her 32% approval rating last December. Palin’s negative rating has gone from 45% in March to 43% now. Most troubling for Palin’s potential political future, only 4% of respondents aren’t sure about her.

Retired - Thanks so much for the kind words & it's almost like those clowns 'get off' uttering Hussein! ;0)

June - Thanks for the heads up on Silly Sarah approvals tanking - even the stuck on stupid crowd will come to their senses and realize she's nothing more than a grifter with new 'boobs' (that they undoubtedly paid for!)

Wonder why THOSE numbers haven't been more widely reported by MSNBC? Hmmm....

            #4.1 - Fri Jun 25, 2010 4:58 PM EDT

Sarah is laughing all the way to the bank - she knew she had a short period of time to make the most money before Americans really catch on. I wonder how her second book will do now?

Feisty and Clara - will try to make it this weekend - I am always AWOL but I have two jobs - full time M-Fri and part time on the weekend. But you know liberals don't work they just want live off the government! So maybe I shouldn't confess that I work almost 60 hours a week - wouldn't want the elephant turds go beserk and say a Joe "You Lie" statement! Hope Anita is OK!

The only thing we kept hearing was the negative on our President. Everybody keep the faith, have a great weekend and hug a sailor, marine, air force, army, coast guard and let them know how we support them.

                  Insightful sports knowledge??? lol

I mentioned this somewhere else, and will say it again. It's rare that we as a country have an event in which we're all on board rooting as one for the same end result. The U.S. Olympic Hockey Team is one example. The US Soccer team is having the same effect. It's fun and gives us all a great deal of pride. I hope as well that everyone enjoys the game.

Speaking of "patriots", the 4th of July is almost upon us and has become one of our most beloved holidays. We all tend to stop for a moment and reflect each July on the historical events which happened so long ago. What has happened since then? Lots and lots of stuff. But here are some fun and/or interesting facts about our Presidents -

Geo. Washington’s teeth were made from elephant and walrus tusks, not wood

Thomas Jefferson spoke 6 different languages

James Madison, smallest President at 5' 4", under 100 lbs.

John Quincy Adams used to skinny dip in the Potomac

Andrew Jackson was the first President to ride in a train

Martin Van Buren was the first President born an American citizen - (all before him were born in the British colonies)

William Henry Harrison was President for only 31 days, he died of pneumonia

James Polk was the first President to serve a nation from coast to coast

Millard Fillmore was the first President to have a stove and running water in the White House

Franklin Pierce memorized his entire inaugural speech - 3,319 words

Ulysses S. Grant was fined $20 for speeding with his horse and carriage

Rutherford B. Hayes was the first President to use a phone - his phone number was 1

James A. Garfield could write with both hands at the same time - in different languages

Warren G. Harding gambled away a set of White House china

Herbert Hoover spoke Chinese to his wife to keep their stories private

Harry S. Truman read every book in his hometown library

Richard Nixon recommended a play to the Miami Dolphins in Super Bowl VI

Gerald Ford became Vice President and President without being elected to either

Jimmy Carter was the first President born in a hospital

Ronald Reagan was the first President to wear contact lens

Bill Clinton was the first baby boomer to be elected President

George W. Bush is the first Little League player to occupy the Oval Office and he has collected more than two-hundred fifty autographed baseballs

Barack Obama - First African American elected President of the United States
                  __________

                  John Adams and Thomas Jefferson died on the same day - July 4, 1826 {amazing}

James Monroe, died on the 4th of July, 1831

Calvin Coolidge was the only President born on the 4th of July

                      Mix Bag:

I'll get back to you on our discussion. It is late. One thing I noted however on your intial response. You stated that there is no light of day of agreement between you and Obbama on those three issues I mentioned (something to that effect). Be reminded that my question was, what would a Republican President have done differently and how those differences would have impacted the three issues I mentioned in a more positive way than what has occurred under Obama?

As for the bail out money going to the citizens instead of to wall street and the banks, etc., I believe that would have been around $2,000 per individual and $6,000 per family. I would not have been opposed to that idea as long as people were given a deadline to spend that money rather than putting it in their savings account at their local "BANK"! Besides, such bail outs for wall street / banks were intended so that banks would begin lending again to individuals and small businesses. They have not. They have horded and invested it for themselves. A recent report shows that during this recession the number of millionaires in the U.S. has climbed by 17% and the wealthy in the U.S. (top 1%) have collectively increased their wealth by 18% while the rest of the country are losing their jobs and homes.

Have a good weekend Mix Bag.

p.s. - Don't forget that what you would have done differently than Obama may or may not have been done by a Republican President or have been possible by a Republican President. So be realistic. It is one thing to say I would have done this or that, it is another thing altogether to be able to do those things.

Since all of the House of Reps and 1/3 of the U.S. Senate gets elected this fall...just how many incumbents have won their primaries vs. those that the media keeps concentrating on as losses for incumbents. Is there really an anti-incumbent wave or have more incumbents won their primaries than lost? Wish someone would inform us. It is my understanding that every incumbent in New Jersey won..and someone mentioned (in passing) more states where the incumbents won. Would love to know the truth.I cannot vote in primaries but I firmly believe that Sen. Spector lost was because of his party switch and his voting record not because he was an incumbent. JMHO

This weeks final update update, it is my feeling that we have stretched global resources in this effort, if something similar happens there will be no way to respond. I would suspect that all required equipment is now being built as fast as possible to fill in the short falls, the Jones Act has nothing to do with this..duh, it has more to do with Fox and Friends stupidity.

In response to Kieth O's guest, what safety equipment do you want people to wear? I do this stuff for a living so give me a break on the undefined non safety issues, this stuff stinks, we call it the smell of money. 110 deg heat is the issue..duh.

How about that judge in LA, I have been saying all along that LA. , Booby Jinkdall and the likes of Billy Dumbguesser are part of the most corrupt state in the union. National Incident Commander Admiral Thad Allen provided a briefing to inform the American public and answer questions on the progress of the administration-wide response to the BP oil spill. He addressed contingency plans that would be implemented in the event of a hurricane or tropical storm entering the Gulf of Mexico—and the threshold of gale force winds that would require the responding vessels in the vicinity of the Deepwater Horizon drilling site to be evacuated. Under the direction of the federal government, BP continues to capture some oil and burn gas at the surface using its containment dome technique, despite a temporary interruption earlier this week. In addition to the oil collection aboard the Discoverer Enterprise, which is linked by the riser pipe to the wellhead, and the Q4000, which continues to flare off additional oil and gas being brought up through the choke line, collection capacity is expected to increase when a third vessel arrives next week and is attached to the kill line.

The Development Driller II has drilled the second relief well—a redundancy measure taken at the direction of the administration—to a depth of approximately 11,800 feet (6,500 feet below the sea floor).

BP has started the “ranging” process—which involves periodically withdrawing the drill pipe and sending an electrical signal down to determine how close they are getting to the wellbore.

                          • More than 6,500 vessels are currently responding on site, including skimmers, tugs, barges, and recovery vessels to assist in containment and cleanup efforts—in addition to dozens of aircraft, remotely operated vehicles, and multiple mobile offshore drilling units.
                          • Approximately 2.63 million feet of containment boom and 4.41 million feet of sorbent boom have been deployed to contain the spill—and approximately 825,000 feet of containment boom and 2.23 million feet of sorbent boom are available.
                          • Approximately 26 million gallons of an oil-water mix have been recovered.
                          • Approximately 1.51 million gallons of total dispersant have been applied—998,000 on the surface and 515,000 subsea. More than 494,000 gallons are available.
                          • 275 controlled burns have been conducted, efficiently removing a total of more than 10 million gallons of oil from the open water in an effort to protect shoreline and wildlife. Because calculations on the volume of oil burned can take more than 48 hours, the reported total volume may not reflect the most recent controlled burns.
                          • 17 staging areas are in place to protect sensitive shorelines.
                          • Approximately 179 miles of Gulf Coast shoreline is currently oiled—approximately 34 miles in Louisiana, 42 miles in Mississippi, 42 miles in Alabama, and 61 miles in Florida. These numbers reflect a daily snapshot of shoreline currently experiencing impacts from oil so that planning and field operations can more quickly respond to new impacts; they do not include cumulative impacts to date, or shoreline that has already been cleared.
                          • Approximately 78,600 square miles of Gulf of Mexico federal waters remain closed to fishing in order to balance economic and public health concerns. More than 67 percent remains open. Details can be found at http://sero.nmfs.noaa.gov/.
                          • To date, the administration has leveraged assets and skills from numerous foreign countries and international organizations as part of this historic, all-hands-on-deck response, including Canada, Germany, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, the United Nations’ International Maritime Organization and the European Union's Monitoring and Information Centre.

The same people who charge criminality always seem to oppose investigations. If you think someone is a criminal why do you always wish to limit the power or scope of the investigation? Could it be that you just want to spew a talking point rather than ever get to the truth about anything?

Are they really Animals or Hobos as some republican leaders have referred to them? !!!. These Republican leaders must apologize to the millions of Laid off workers

It was very sad to hear republican law makers referring to laid off workers as 'animals' and 'Hobos'. The laid off workers must demand public apology from these republicans. Currently, the country has millions of these laid off workers who are really struggling to find work and are still unable to find any. These misguided republicans should understand that these laid off workers never asked their employers to lay them off but were laid off for reasons beyond their control and not of their own fault.

The allowances these people are paid come from what they contributed over a period of time when they were still working. This allowance is very little compared to what these people were earning before they got laid off and can only enable them take care of a few of their basic needs. Any leader or individual who becomes jealous of these little allowances being paid to these individuals should understand that non of these individuals will never be happy to continue leaving on these little allowances that can not even enable them pay their pressing bills.

The majority of laid off workers, even though they are really suffering with the little allowances paid to them, recognize and appreciate all that the Democrat law makers have done to ensure that they stay on their feet and also that they get their jobs back or find other jobs. The Democrat leaders understand that they are leading people and not stones or animals. They inherited an economy falling off the cliff from the same republicans who now after just a few months feel that people should vote for them so that they can go back and mess it up further. They think that voters have forgotten that they created this mess that the Democrats are now painfully struggling to clean. It always take a while to clean a mess like the one left behind by these individuals who are now calling the laid off workers Animals, Hobos and all other names that they can come up with. They need to have respect for humanity.

Hey MB, notice is is called World Cup, that means a lot more countries participate. You cannot use it as a comparison to American Football, which is played just here in this country.

That means it is provincial and no matter how much the NFL tries selling it elsewhere, soccer is the most popular sport in the world.... and the USA is not the world.

Soccer in the United States is no different than softball...a lot of people have played it.

Few of them will ever pay a dime to watch others play.

I guess they're all unsophisticated hayseeds.

France has a "Ministry Of Culture" and the French believe that Jerry Lewis epitomizes brilliance in comedic acting...of course, they just love soccer.

I can live with the thought that worshippers of that genius, Jerry Lewis, might consider me quaintly "provincial", GM.

After reviewing friday's first thoughts, it finally dawned on me about the different class sets in this nation for truly the first time. I read about people buying their second homes and vacationing and spending for patriotism while millions of us middle class families are struggling just to keep what little we have. I guess that is why it is so hard to make you understand that millions of us feel the healthcare nightmare of this nation. outrageous dedutibles and copays, tests that run in the thousands not to mention the treatments. HCR without a national plan(easily done incorporate VA,Medicare and Medicaid with just a small copay) will not help the dying middle class. It makes me sad for your children and their children to know that big insurance, big hospitals and big oil will continue to somehow con a percertage of Americans into being with them. It also makes me sad that within a generation, the southern states are going to feel the aftermath of this spill in higher cancer rates and it will have been too late. Real change.. a national health care plan had been thrown under the bus. the middle class needed a bailout not the banks.

Rachel Maddow from Friday Night's Program on President Obama's Achievements a year and a half into his Administration:

With the passage of financial regulation in Washington today, President Obama took to the very un-momentous setting of "Twitters," as he called it yesterday, to say this, quote, "Last night`s House Senate agreement on Wall Street reform represents the toughest financial reform since the Great Depression."

It turns out that a lot of things that have happened in the less than two years of this administration are the biggest or first or most important in generations. On the occasion of the Wall Street reform announcement today, Taegan Goddard at "CQ Politics" wrote, "Not since FDR has a president done so much to transform this country."

Even before today`s historic Wall Street reform agreement, President Obama, of course, did what politicians have been trying to do for more than 60 years. He passed health reform, which, for the first time, establishes government responsibility for the health care of American citizens.

Consider also the stimulus bill. It didn`t just throw a lasso around our entire economy and yank and yank it back from the brink. It also pumped about $100 billion into the crumbling embarrassment of our national infrastructure and transportation system.

It was the largest investment in infrastructure since Ike. For solving our country`s energy problems, something Obama has compared to man walking on the moon, it contained about $60 billion in spending and tax incentives for renewable and clean energy, also a historic investment.

It also included an unheralded but giant investment in science and tech, amping up the budgets at NASA, the National Science Foundation, and an experimental energy research agency that was created under President George W. Bush, but never funded until now.

President Obama also expanded state kids` health insurance to cover another four million kids. He signed the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act amending the 1964 civil rights act for equal pay for equal work.

He signed a nuclear arms deal with Russia that would reduce both countries` arsenals by a third. He created a new global nonproliferation initiative to keep nuclear materials out of the hands of terrorists.

He set forth an international way forward on that radical left-wing proposition of Ronald Reagan, a world without nuclear weapons. Then there are the legislative and policy achievements that don`t just build on previously-set precedents, but set new ones.

The Hate Crimes Prevention Act, also known as the Matthew Shepard Act. It had languished in Congress for years. The Food and Drug Administration permitted for the first time to regulate tobacco.

Better late than never, he dismantled the scandal-plagued Minerals Management Service, broke it into three parts so that the folks who collect money from oil leases aren`t the same ones regulating the industry. And now, it will actually investigate the industry that it was busy schtupping and doing drugs with during the last administration.

Obama fired two wartime commanding generals in little over a year. He overhauled the astonishing stupidity of the student loan system in which banks were being subsidized to give loans that were guaranteed by the government anyway, a license to print money.

That was ended in the savings put toward actual aid to students. He canceled a weapons program that was bloated, unnecessary and totally irrelevant to either of our current wars, the F-22. Why even mention the cancellation of a single weapons system? Because that never happens. Weapons systems never get canceled. The F-22 did, which is itself a miracle.

In each of these achievements and in the list of things he has yet to do - "Don`t Ask, Don`t Tell," closing Guantanamo - in each of these things, there is room for liberal disappointment. I sing a bittersweet lullaby to the lost public option when I go to sleep at night.

But presidential legacies are complex. Not even the Reagan administration`s legacy is pure as the conservative-driven snow. But Taegan Goddard at "CQ Politics" was right today about nothing this big happening since FDR.

The list of legislative accomplishments of this president in half a term even before energy reform which he`s probably going to get to is, to quote the vice president, "a big freaking deal." Love this administration or hate it, this president is getting a lot done.

The last time any president did this much in office, booze was illegal. If you believe in policy, if you believe in government that addresses problems, cheers to that. Good night.

Achievements, a GOP friend of mine said, which are benefitting the entire country. And a man who, despite being a staunch Republican, hopes to see DADT history, something he wouldn't have said just 2 years ago. He is warming up to President Obama and Nancy Pelosi more and more each day, something I never thought in a million years would happen. He's pretty disgusted with the GOP.

My we have come a long long way in a very very short time. Thank you Rachel.

I was watching Richard Reeves this morning on CSpan. He had recently written a book on my favorite subject - The Berlin Airlift. He said that George Marshall and Omar Bradley were dead set against the airlift, as was General Clay. It was the British who came up with the plan that would make the impossible, possible. Once Lucius Clay saw this plan, he came on board, as did Harry Truman. 1948 was an election year and Thos. Dewey assumed he was going to get elected, and he said the first thing he was going to do was get rid of Clay. As it turned out, the USA was 85% in favor of helping out the Berliners and Reeves believes it was the Berlin Airlift that got Truman re-elected. I believe it was Dulles who was in a meeting with Truman telling him that this would not work, and Truman walked out on him. All the Republicans were against it - it would be too expensive, it couldn't be done. The military planes that were used were in terrible terrible condition, so much so that they decided if one instrument was working, just one, it was used. The planes would hit the ground so hard that in between landings, Berliners (mostly women) would run out to the runway and fill in the holes before the next plane landed, approx. 90 seconds later.

The planes were so bad, that they had to use planes from American Airlines, etc., and the planes had to be flown with windows open and doors ajar because flour and coal were combustible. Every 90 seconds a plane landed, in fog, just 17 feet above apartment buildings as they were landing.

Reeves said he wrote the book because of our torture policies and wanted our country to get back to what we were as a country during the airlift days. Clay was not popular with the Berliners initially, but today, if you go to Berlin, you will see a lovely waterfall type monument in the center of a rotary, dedicated to General Clay and all those young soldiers who had returned to Berlin from America and England after the War, to see this through. There is also a monument at the airport and other places in Germany. Plus, there is this -

Clay died in Chatham, Massachusetts, on April 16, 1978. At his gravesite at West Point is a memorial from the people of Berlin that reads: "Wir danken dem Bewahrer unserer Freiheit" ("We thank the defender of our freedom").

Here are a few photos of the Airlift-

France as well participated in the airlift, which I failed to mention. Reeves also talked about the relationships between the French and Berliners, the British and Berliners and Americans and Berliners. A lot of soccer games were played between them all. Serious, hard hitting soccer games. He said the runway was full of blood because of these soccer games.

A nice sentiment on Reeves' part. At least back then we thought we knew who our enemies were and could identify them. Today our greatest enemies are internal to our system and land, they are the saboteurs of our freedom from "terrorism". The two Dulles brothers were the beginning of that instrument of sabotage.
