You are forgiven if the BP spill -- as well other pressing issues -- made you forget that we have a Supreme Court confirmation fight this summer.
Indeed, SCOTUS nominee Elena Kagan's Senate confirmation hearings start one week from today -- on Monday the 28th.
Today, the Senate Judiciary Committee announced that Monday's start time will be 12:30 pm ET.

Some Republicans will grand stand and posture. They'll whine and complain but in the end Kagen will be confirmed. It is how the game is played.
How true Mark! It's almost like Elena Kagan WHO? :0)
Bottem line is - she WILL be confirmed!
In the interim the righties will continue to grandstand showing the country what the party of 'NO' represents! lol
Looks like a showdown in the Senate and Harry Reid needs to make sure that if the party of sore losers calls a filibuster then he must call their bluff and force them to take their filibuster to CSPAN 24/7 until public opinion goes so far against the filibuster that the dopes of nope have to call it off and allow a vote on Elena Kagan's confirmation to the Senate floor. It's time for Harry Reid to show some courage and to force a showdown with the repugnant ones, one that will sink them in November. Harry can't allow a mere threat of a filibuster to derail Kagan's confirmation, he must force the repugnant ones to actually do the filibuster on CSPAN where they will watch the public go ballistic at their obstructionist ways.
Confirm Elena Kagan Now!
Maggie this one’s for you because you asked so long ago and I never had a chance to follow thru. I did follow on the trail that you posted and several other things along those lines and here’s what Redneck Pragmatism tells me. Kagan has many things that point to a more left leaning view of the law. She also has a very good academic record to back up her credentials. All of this due to the present make up of the Supreme Court doesn’t amount to much. She could be a card carrying Communist and it wouldn’t have a large effect on future court decisions. Unless something happens to one of the Majority of Judges (Before everybody starts screaming I’m not wishing bad things on anybody just looking at reality) then the only thing Kagan is going to possibly do is make sure that the quality of the minority decision is expressed as well as Justice Stevens was famous for. So If it was me I would give it the effort to be able to say that I held up my end of the bargain but I wouldn’t waste my Political capital to go to the mat in opposition. That discussion needs to wait until such times come as a having a candidate who would significantly change the present make up and I don’t see that happening for a while.
I'm w/ Eric. Its past time to respond to a filibuster w/ a demand for 24/7 call the bet. Put it on TV and let the chips fall. Kagan is an excellent place to start and then just keep it rollin'. Mr Smith needs to come back to Washington
