Rick Barber -- a Tea Party Republican competing in a congressional run-off down in Alabama -- is airing the first TV ad this reporter can remember that advocates taking up arms against the United States.
Seriously.
In the ad (below), Barber has a discussion with men dressed up as America's founding fathers. "I would impeach him," Barber says at the beginning, obviously a reference to impeaching President Obama.
Barber continues, "Today we have an Internal Revenue Service that enforces what they call a 'progressive' income tax... Now this same IRS is going to force us to buy health insurance, cram it down our throats or else. Now I took an oath to defend that [the U.S. Constitution] with my life, and I can't stand by while these evils are perpetrated. You, gentleman, revolted over a tea tax! A tea tax! Now look at us. Are you with me?"
One of the men dressed like a U.S. founding father -- George Washington? -- replies, "Gather your armies." And to drive home the point, there are clear images of pistols in the ad.
Barber is running in a July 13 run-off against Martha Roby for the right to take on incumbent Alabama Rep. Bobby Bright (D) in the fall. Roby got 48.6% of the vote in the June 1 primary, and is the favorite in this contest.

This, on top of the crissymatthews upcoming special "The Rise of the new Right"......! The not so special, special should be titled "The Rise of the Old Klan"
It's obvious the guy is asking for votes in a novel, and very effective, way. This commercial speaks to all people concerned about Big Government.
I find comments by our own president to be far more concerning:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwaAVJITx1Y
I like the message that he is putting out there. MSNBC is trying to spin this as treason and the MSNBC lap dogs will buy it, but those that can think for themselves will see that Rick is getting people to vote out the self serving Representatives that are in office right now. So many of the of those that are in office right now are worried about what is good for them, not what is good for our country. The Tea Party is not out for just Democrats, but those who are not looking out for the American people...Republicans included...
Chilled- Can you please give me proof that the Klan is connected to the Tea Party, or is this more brainless dribble that you are regurgitating?
Wow such a twisted view. Do you really think this man represents ALL of his state? Nope. He's rounding the troops of his base and telling them to use force by any means necessary. How in the world is msnbc putting a "spin" on this? That's the other news network. And we all know that the tea party is a branch of the republican party. Let's not kid ourselves otherwise that's the spin right there. What's a real shame is the fact that this candidate is 48% and the favorite. Yuck
sorry chilled. I was responding to Mark L and ended up responding to you. whoops.
Denise- he is calling for peoples votes, you really don't need to blow this out of proportion, but go ahead and use your fear and smear techniques...
....and the weapons are for....? Anyway, you say tomato I say tomato. Why cant he tell the people of Alabama what HE'S going to do for the state. Fear and smear is not my tactic thanks very much its in the commercial ad above.
Rikeroo i hope that was sarcasm- by civilian force- he talking about civilian emergency responders such as CERT, or the red cross. Disaster relief and neighborhood watch groups. Volunteers for food pantries, soup kitchens, youth groups, elderly homes, and homeless shelters. Many of which was also advocated by the previous administration. This would actually encourage people to be able to act independently and effective without waiting for the government to respond. Why let the government try and do what the community can do better?
There is no Obama's secret army, there are no impending concentration camps, nor are our cities going to become massive prisons.
Denise - actually, Martha Roby is the favorite; still, I agree with you that some of these folks are just downright crazy.
This guy speaks to those who would seek to undo the progress this country has made. For those who are always dreaming that the "good old days" actually existed, they need to ask them selves if back then were there no issues facing the citizens that had to be resolved?
The only time the country thrives financially is when the democrats are in power. The republicans spend us into the ground and ruin our entire economic system portraying their actions as the capitalistic way. Well capitalism requires a watchful eye as does every other system ever implemented in this country and in the World.
We always have lower taxes under democrats and more equity in all facets of society. The disparity in earnings between the worker and the executives is more in tune with actual value provided. Certainly no one can believe that some president of some company that sits on his/her a#s all day has more value to the company than the workers who provide the products and service of the industry. The gap between the two groups has grown to unbelievable and certainly unwarranted heights.
This guy is so far off course that he actually believes and wants the main stream to believe that government has ruined the country. Without the intervention at the end of the previous administration, this country WOULD be facing a depression that would rank even more henious than the 1930s.
If this guy wants to live back in 1776, I'm sure he can find some mountain community that will let him in if he brings enough ammunition as an entrance fee.
In the movie "Matrix" there is a well known tag-line; "Ignorance is bliss!". Unfortunately for this country, I think the amount of ignorance has reached critical mass and if someone doesn't come up with a plan to defuse it - it will blow up! Then we'll all be truly in a blissful state - the state of death that is!
My views don't reflect any political party's or movement's views, I'm simply a domesticated foreigner with a citizenship that tells me I have the right to vote and serve on jury duty. I reluctantly took the citizenship after more than 5 years pass the time I qualified for it. Why didn't I jump at the opportunity to be a citizen as soon as I was able to apply? Because my faith in the american way of life and the direction towards which this country was and still is going is seriously shaken. It's shaken by its inability to mature into a more modern society worthy of its true European origins and worthy of its ancestral dreams to become free.
Too many things in every day life are fed to us without deeper understanding of the realities that surround us, abroad and domestically, on part of the not so well educated populace that consumes it. Everything we hear in the news, read in newspapers and watch on television is watered down, becomes self-serving, keep-them-amused bunch of half true's or lies produced by only two governing political parties. It becomes real old in a hurry. So much that it is almost like going to church on Sunday where you already know what the priest will say because it's always the same and always the doctrine of the church, but never the voice of reason. Those among us who are blessed with the knowledge of being able to speak a foreign language and read from foreign news sources can attest to the biases and ignorance that prevails in american politics.
How could a modern democracy, which this country thinks it is, only have a two party system? Maybe those who, like myself, take the Oath of Allegiance should be presented with a paper that boldly states on top; "Now you have the right to fight for your freedom and form a political party!". Don't you think that doing a jury duty is such a "turn-off" for so many?!
This does NOT speak to people concerned about "big government." It speaks to all of the illiterate red-neck racists who support the so-called 'Tea Party.' The Republican Party has operated on FEAR, FEAR, FEAR for years now. They have no new ideas, and their only agenda is to get re-elected, and sell their souls, and our country, to the highest-bidding lobbyists. The only reason they spend millions of dollars to get elected to a position that doesn't pay all that well is to sell their votes to whomever will pay the most. As far as they are concerned, the "average" American (blue collar and below) is nothing more than a slave to make them even richer. The Republican Party has been denying the civil rights of the average citizen since the days of the "Great Communicator", who has been so adored and idolized by the Republicans - Ronald Reagan. This is the man who slept through his final two years in office, ate up with Alzheimers, while Nancy ran the damn country!
Where is there anywhere in the Constitution, Declaration of Independence, or Bills Of Rights that says we have to be saddled with a two-party system? Why are the voters always left with deciding on the choice between the lesser of TWO evils?
Does anyone remember that our "founding fathers", for the most part, had divided this fledgling country into their personal fiefdoms in the new world, from which they gathered their power, owned slaves, and lorded it over everyone else?
Hell. George Washington had the biggest hemp (pot) plantation that ever existed. At least HE might have de-crimalized it, unlike Carter, who just promised to do it while running for office, and than ran away from it once elected. Maybe if pot had been de-criminalized by now, we could all just sit back and giggle at the Tea-Partiers, which is all the notice they deserve.
laughing @chilled...So crazy that libs try to tie conservatives or tea party members to the clan. The KKK was started by/ funded by the Democratic party. Read some history buddy.
Croatian....The United States of America is not, and was never, intended to be a democracy. The U.S.A.'s form of government is a Constitutional Republic. There is a huge difference. Democracy=mob rule, or majority ruled form, and a Constitutional Republic is "Rule of Law". I'm so sick of people refering to our government as a democracy. Granted, our officials are democratically appointed; but, that does not make the USA a democracy. We should never allow ourselves to be a 'democracy'. Read up on the fall of the Roman empire. That's a perfect example of what happens when a Republic becomes a democracy.
@Joe-939377. You have a very interesting, yet fundamentally flawed point of view. So, the whole world sees the U.S.A as the beacon of freedom and democracy, which is actually becoming less and less since the fall of Berlin Wall, yet you think that this country is everything but a democracy? What is it about you not liking that word? Are you a Republican? You see, that's what's wrong with all of you "team players" of two-party system. You think that freedoms that have been granted to us are good as long as you can fit them into two boxes, one for me and one for others? For you, the two-party system is perfect because as in the american football you must have only two teams and one must always win. Where I come from we play a different kind of football, one that whole world likes a lot better. In it, the two teams can score a tie, yet they are both aware that they will get their chance to play with other teams and maybe score better. When it's all said and done one team out of many becomes the one to win the trophy. American Joe's, like yourself, always want an instant gratification, always a simple, dumb-down choice, always an easy way out of every situation. That is the doom that will bring this society down to its knees. Even if I was to give in to your Roman Empire comparison (which is ridiculous) - that empire lasted for over 1000 years! Will your "Constitutional Republic" last as long? I don't think so.
HA...Croatian...I am very much an independent. I have voted Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, and Independent. I believe anyone who votes along a party line is willfully ignorant. Your rant about party players makes my point for me. Both sides of the isle have trampled the constitution and my bone is with any elected official who abuses the law or deems themselves above it.
A beacon of liberty and freedom, not democracy as an end-all, be-all. I don't dislike the word democracy, but I do dislike how people improperly think that democracy is the USA's form of government.
Yes, the Roman empire lasted for 1000 years but the reason it fell from it's glory is as follows: It started as a republic (rule of law) with democratically appointed representitives. Those great men who devised this system of government passed and over time, and due to the electorate's apathy or laziness, it became a democracy in which the elctorate and the representitives allowed the will of most to over-ride the rule of law. Over time and with increased apathy a democracy will inevitably becomes an oligarchy. This is were our great nation is headed and has been for quite some time. Once power was centrally controlled by an oligarchy, the people lost their voice, pride in the empire becomes non existant. Society suffers, the army looses will and the Germanic tribal warfare (Goths and Visigoths)was just the final nail in the coffin. It's hard to properly summerise a chronology of +/- 1000 years in a single paragraph but I think you can see my point.
Finally, I use the name Joe because my name is Joseph, not because I seek to project myself as an 'average joe' or 'American joe'.
and Croatian...using soccer as an analogy for government and politics while acusing me of wanting a dumbed down, spoon-fed choice says more about your understanding of government than my own. I do not seek an 'easy way' nor instant gratification...it is precisely this mentality that has led us to where we are as a nation (short-sighted, easy, fix-all solutions that eventually fail).
Sedition, treason plain and simple. This is what the tea baggers are all about.
treason my a... your scared of the tea party people, all the left are . this president and his money hungry liars are ruining our country.everything he promised to get his self elected has been nothing but lies. it is time we stand up to this gov. and take our country back if your state was being ruined while this no experienced liar plays golf and has parties with movie stars and takes six vacations you would be on your last nerve too.
You don't speak for 309,505,005 Americans.
Bush was a terrible president, quite possibly the worse our country has had,
yet you never heard liberals espouse the veiled threats that the conservatives direct
at Obama on a daily basis.
obama will now go down as the worst president. he has spent more of our childrens money, and there childrens money than bush did in his whole two terms and he still wants more.obama/s approvel is getting lower everyday do you know how much tax payers put out for his evil queen pelosi to stay in washington try 18.600 dollars a month so she can have more living space. this will be a one term pres. and thank god.
carlyss man - You sound like a typical right wingnut. You spout off without getting any of your facts straight.
it's
yes we did hear libs spout their vitriol. they even produced a movie on how to assassinate Bush. We need people who will reign in an ever growing govt. Obama's term can't end soon enough. My dog could make better decisions and demonstrate a stronger leadership.
Enjoy it will it's here. November is coming.
how long has your head been stuck in the mud - obama needs to be impeached for his actions and his administrations actions in the gulf oil spill. they could have three days after this accident has alot of skimmers in the water and our beaches would not be in the shape they are now. wasn't it one of his agencies that issued the permits for this drilling and did they do their job correctly? doesn't look that way but obama wants legal action against bp - why not legal action against the federal government? he is a joke not a president and i am so tired of his agenda - what about the american peoples agenda? we don't want his health care plan nor do we want anymore illegals in this country. send them and their children home until they can enter this country legally. my grandfather, father and brothers have fought for my freedom - i am an american and my children and grandchildren have a right to be in this country and i am tired of paying the price for others who think they have a right to what i have worked for all my life. go home and impeach obama. this is our country - remember the united states of america - not mexico, iran, or any of those other countries!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
On an odd note I read that "carlyss man" notes "plays golf and has parties with movie stars and takes six vacations you would be on your last nerve too" Either you are young and or had not been able to vote or undertstand what was happening during the 1st Gulf War with the 1st Bush in office, because for months at a time, every moment the press had coverage on Bush during the 1st Gulf War, he was Fishing and or playing Golf, not to leave out he spent most of the war doing this in Maine or on vacation retreats to Camp David. Not that I am a fan of Obama, but do some research next time and post those monetary figures of what Obama has spent vs. little Georgie and his two terms. I guess that war as well as all the lives lost don't amount to anything? You carlyss man are not a Tea Party person, but rather a used Tea Bag.
Carlyss, I think you need a refresher on the use of punctuation and correct capitalization. The one thing I can be certain about you teabaggers is that you have a very poor grasp of english grammar and spelling. Keep up the good work. You're a great Amerikkkan.
I'm sorry, but this is nothing but left wing spin...what this article is showing you is just how scared the left really is. The one thing the left has not shown you is what they have accomplished that should get them reelected. In fact what has Obama done to better this country since his taking office? There are come good points in this AD, and it is not a call to arms against the country...it's a call to public service by voting both Republicans and Democrats out that are serving themselves not our country.
Judy We can tell you were watching Hannity last nite. He's just a Turd, and your no better for actually beleiving that tripe. His only task is to whip up trouble among the less intelligent among us. He sure got you.
just quite simply not even close to true...
LOL. I ain't scared of no tea baggers. Bring it on. I have my weapons, know how to shoot, and hate the ignorant. If the tea baggers had done this to Bush then I might join, but they did not.
They didn't complain about the homeland security debacle because they are cowards that don't believe they should be required to give their blood to keep our freedom.
Bunch of ignoramuses that will run at the first shot.
bring it on anytime. be glad to send you on your way to the neatrest cemetary.
Steve, It looks like you have no idea what the Tea Party Movement is about...First, they didn't do this to Bush because he was not setting the country up for some of the highest taxes since Carter like Obama is... And no matter how much MSNBC is trying to paint a picture of violent uneducated white men, dose not make it true. Actually, if you look at demographics that have been polled, the Tea Party ranks as well educated college graduates. See, they actually now what is going on...I would hate to have someone educate you on the trouble we are being placed in economically...it may caused you to loose that violent rant that you are so good at.
I think the add is completely inaccurate at its base. The Sons of Liberty weren't up in arms about a tea tax, they were up in arms about having no representation in the British Parliament. The last straw so to speak was an increase in the tea tax without Colonial input. If the last straw had been a tax on soap you would see men in costume talking about taking America back from the bathers in this commercial. ("Obama wants us to shower more, let's impeach him!") But the issue clearly isn't about taxes (or hygiene), it is and always has been about representation. That is what our Forefathers fought for.
A lack of representation does not manifest itself in today's America. I'm very sorry that some people feel they are not being listened to, but that is what is called the minority. They have the minority opinion and therefore the government goes another way. It's time for conservatives to simply man up and discontinue their obstruction of the Federal Government, otherwise they clearly demonstrate that they are party first and America second on every issue. Not only are many of the minority opinions in fact in the minority, but they are fed by demonstrable falsehoods and lies - a further reason the government should not listen to their point of view. I'm not exactly sure what the Tea Party wants to take America back to - the pre industrial age?. It seems to them it is more about being in control than being correct. This is reflected in their continued use of ridiculously over the top imagery and rhetoric, and their continued references of revolution.
A bunch of know-nothings just like the GOP after Lincoln! Scared and emotional.
The "Tea Party" candidates will do to the Republican party in 2010 and possibly 2012 what the "Green" part has done to the Democrats in past elections....split the vote. As these primaries continue to roll along I continue to hear Republicans talk about taking back the house and senate and what complete devestation it's going to be....at the same time, I keep seeing these Tea Party candiates winning primaries in those contested elections who don't have a prayer of actually winning the general. Case in point Nevada; I thought we might actually get rid of Harry Reid, but I don't think that's happening now. Sharon Angle has way too many odd ball stances on things, the biggest of which is she is for making alcohol illegal....in Nevada.....home to sin city. Yeah, I'm sure that's going to go over really well. Reid may not be popular, but voters have been now been given the choice between someone who's not popular and a complete loon.
I guess we'll see what happens, but I suspect these candidates will divide GOP voters.
Hey Wolfman13 keep thinking that way!!! The only thing is that light at the end of the tunnel that you see is coming from a train!
Whatever Mark, I think you folks live in some sort of bubble or something. In my home state we have a couple of tea baggers who one the primary for two congressional seats to go up against what could be two relatively easy to beat Democrats. Guess what, it aint happenin' These guys have very little in the way of public support and supremely benefited from horrific voter turnout. I live in a very purple state and a purple district; these guys are loonier than the liberals they are running against. Again, it will be the lesser of two evils.
Sedition is acts against your countries interest, not trying to preserve your country and its constitution.
EVERYTHING our government does or enacts is supposed to be guided and governed by the Constitution, that is OUR RULE OF LAW, which sets the guide for every civil code, penal code and government rule and ordinance. That is something our current leaders in washington DC have chosen to overlook for their own benifits. We are supposed to have a government "BY THE PEOPLE and FOR THE PEOPLE" not a federal dictatorship by either corrupt party, in case anyone slept through history class.
Azrancher, that reminds me of someone I recently met that insisted that the Constitution only allowed the US Census to ask only how many people resided at a house, so he refused to list any names or ages on his census form. He was completely wrong, as the actual US Constitution states:
"The actual Enumeration shall be made within three Years after the first Meeting of the Congress of the United States, and within every subsequent Term of ten Years, in such Manner as they shall by Law direct."
In other words, the Constitution allows and requires Congress to set the rules for the census enumeration, and that includes what questions will and will not be asked.
Some people have their own imaginary constitution that bans whatever they don't like, and requires whatever they happen to like, but their makebelieve "constitution" has no relation to the real thing. They really need to read the real thing and come back to reality.
The Constitution is not the complete code of law, it is the foundation on which the law is based. The Constitution gives Congress broad powers to write laws, and everything the government does is permitted by or required by the Constitution. Any attempt to do otherwise would be blocked by the opposition and the courts.

BTW, I have taken an oath to uphold the Constitution, and unlike some yahoos, I've actually read it!
Yes. We - the people in this country who can still think for ourselves - are afraid of the Tea Partiers.
Beacause they are so effing stupid!
It is moronic for teabaggers like Mark L to excuse Bush/Cheney for America's financial problems.
Before they so conveniently termed out of office, Duh-bya and Dirty Dick emptied the Treasury to give tax cuts to the wealthiest 1%, then they borrowed TRILLIONS from China for their war in Iraq and Afghanistan.
They and the whole GOP knew damn well McCain/Palin couldn't win, and knew also that they'd be leaving the Dems a bankrupt Treasury and two wars, with no rational choice but to raise taxes. All the GOP would have to do, they assumed, was wait out the ensuing anger and chaos and step back into the White House in 2012.
Traitorous weasels ran the country for 8 years, and the teabaggers want to put them back in charge. Unbelievable.
Of course, teabaggers/morons won't understand my argument.
"Some people have their own imaginary constitution that bans whatever they don't like, and requires whatever they happen to like"
Yeah, we call them politicians. Quite a few have been quoted saying just that.
“I don’t worry about the Constitution on this to be honest with you.” Congressman Hare (IL)
"Most of what we do here isn't Constitutional" - Congressman Clyburn (SC)
Where does loyal opposition end and sedition begin? In my book this is very close to sedition. I find no evidence of loyal opposition.
And yet the media will do very little to contradict this. Oh, they might say, it is not nice, but somehow it will get turned around to be Obama's fault.
My dog has to go to the vet today - according to the opposition that's Obama's fault too.
Unless more Democrats come forward on cable, where the biggest lies live, than the voting public will just keep getting dumber and dumber.
Ron Indiana,
You must have gotten that from your mentor Keith Olgerman or maybe it was Rachel Madcow!!!!!!!
Chandler W.,
Doesn't Obama Care take care of your Hound...It takes care of everybody else!!!!!!!!!

I can't watch the video from work but I hope they're not planning on beginning their revolt in Concord and Lexington again. Well, the 4th of July is coming sooon - so why not repeat history, instead of you know, making you're own? Yes, I'd say that's George Washington. And Ben F. But he's easy.
Speaking of the 4th, I was reading recently a wonderful book which contained about 150 different little stories about things that happened in the White House since John Adams' day.
In 1976, during our Bicentennial, Queen Elizabeth was invited to the White House to celebrate the occasion. And after dinner, President Ford began the dancing by inviting the Queen up to the dance floor for the first dance.
And what do you suppose they were dancing to - the music from The Lady Is A Tramp.
Can you believe it?!
Seriously.????????
When does comcast take over?
I think part of the reason Chris Matthews and even Ed Schultz have had more anti-Obama rhetoric is because Comcast has already taken over.
The CEO of Comcast is a conservative.
So much for any liberal media.
Chandler W.,
The real reason is, that their tired of carrying Obama's water when he wrong(99.9 % of the time)...I bet their rating were better, now that they were reporting the truth!!!!!!!!!!
The Department of Justice and the FCC are still looking over the Comcast/GE deal, so GE is still in charge. The government needs to approve the merger.
Hey Snuffy! Why don't you learn to read, write, and spell before you try to make any comments?
It's even harder to take any of you comments seriously when you can't even speak (or type) the Englaish language.
Not to worry. Barber's suggestions will not play well with a majority of Alabamians. If there were to be an uprising, an armed conflict, the nation's college footbal season would most likely have to be postponed or re-scheduled. That is something that just would not be tolerated in Alabama.
At least there is some voices of reason in the South
I tend to agree with CA, although I have to point out the disturbing possibility that Alabama's non-Tide-supporters might support armed insurrection precisely to upset Bama's plans for a second consecutive national championship. Never underestimate the moronic deviousness of right-wing nut-jobs. (Or: Hell hath no fury like an Auburn fan scorned.)
Southern has never meant ignorant.I feel proud to know that some of you know the truth and aren't resorting to childishness.I keep hearing about being taxed to death and mine haven't gone up.I guess all of you complaining make more than 500k a year and are mad you have to pay taxes like the rest of us.Especially since the Bush tax cuts that were only for the wealthy expired.I don't recall any complaing about that or the fact the republicans filibustered the defense budget.Which jeapordized military pay and benefits(while we're fighting 2 wars). All in the name of politics and sabotaging the government.Because the budget didn't change and it passed 97-1 in the senate.Politics at the expense of the military.Real patriotism from the GOP.And no complaints from the tea party.
On a side note 'Bama had a great team the last 2 years.I think you guys can repeat.
Teabags, nut jobs & airheads. The face of the new, improved GOP!
I guess they will say and do anything to win. I still just wonder how come they are acting like this and nothing was said between 2001 thru 2008. Go Figure!!!
TRR,
Probably nothing was said, earlier, because, we were not heading down the "far left socialist crapper", let by a group of soupheads that have no idea of what this Country is all about. MSNBC takes a political marketing ploy, turns it into something its' not and you guys go off like a disturbed hive of honey bees. Grow up! A majority of U.S. citizens, legal citizens, that is, don't like the direction this great Country is heading and they want real change, not the goofy Obama change, where we apologize to everyone, force expensive insurance down everyones throats and raise our taxes so that they, the politicians, can live better. Start thinking, for a change.
Thinking implies looking at all the facts, placing in context and then coming to a conclusion based on reality. Liberals a.ka. better known today as ' progressives ' are not capable of logical thought.... for them it's all about "good intentions' and never let facts get in the way of their "noble goals" .
Watching all the events of the past two years they ( progressives ) have been unmasked for the sanctimonious, self centered hypocrites they are...... tolerant to the extent you agree with them.
OK dave....time to start thinking for yourself and stop repeating the fox talking points of the day. We understand that 40 some percent of the country may believe that we are headed in the wrong direction, but the majority of this country does not. We voted for changing the direction that mcbush took the country. What you are so angry about is the aftermath of 8 years of stupidity and greed. What upsets the majority of this country is the @$%%^#@# mess that w left us. We have to spend more time and resources to dig our way out of the rethugliklan ditch instead of enacting President Obama's great agenda. Please name one tax that has increased for you. Just one. Do you believe in torture dave? don't know if you ever had the courage to serve your country and fellow citizens or not, but how would you like to be tortured if you were captured by the enemy? We have much to apologize for dave. You don't have to buy expensive insurance dave....why don't you buy some really cheap, inexpensive, worthless coverage. Time for you to start thinking for the first time in your life dave. Fox noise does not count for brain activity.
It's like people voted and a week later, as Lewis Black says, they all had a stroke and totally forgot the 8years before the election.
The Republicans are devoid of ideas and simply want to go backwards to the Bush era policies.
Don't some of you see that is what got us into this mess in the first place?
Just remember Dave and Mitch I got my big tax break for Bush which was 46.00 a year for 8 years and my tax break from President Obama is 480.00 a year. Plus the lowest taxes in 50 years for everyone, so don't go saying the he has raised taxes. Just remember if taxes do go up in 2011 it's from Bush taxes expiring.
".........self centered hypocrites they are...... tolerant to the extent you agree with them." Aw, Mitch- leave Palin out of this!
Dave D - if anyone should grow up - it's you. The majority of Americans do not want the change that Dave D wants! Oh yeah those Americans are LEGAL Americans.
What do you really want - Republicans in charge, big business back in favor and drooling over their greed, Oil folks - now do we really need to go there, all the special interests in their back pockets making their wallets fat. Frankly these politicians are the traitors.
chris
60% of the country thinks we are headed in the wrong direction according to every poll out there. The rest of your post is equally as nonsensical and FOS as your claim that only 40% think the country is headed in the wrong direction. Instead of making up numbers you can go to Real Clear Politics and get facts.
What does headed in the wrong direction even mean? A liberal might check the same box as a conservative if you ask them if the country is headed in the wrong direction, but they will do it for different reasons. Dig deeper guys and don't just rely on polls. I vote for the guy with plans and so far that's Obama. The GOP and Tea Party are all hype and obstruction - no real meat, no agenda of any kind, unless you count regaining power at any and all cost an agenda. What would they do with that power if they get it? Seems to me they would do what they say and that is go right back to the policies that put us in this position in the first place.
OK disjointed - I just checked it out. Looks like in terms of approval rating is dead heat to me. As far as wrong direction....well, that number hasn't changed a whole lot since GWB was in office and yes, it's about 60%. Of course people think we're going in the wrong direction; unemployment, economy woes, fighting two seemingly endless wars (by the way, Afghanistan just became the longest war in U.S. history). Guess what, these aren't all Obama's fault. You act as if everything was just grand when Bush left office and all of a sudden it fell appart. The mess we are in took years to create and will take years to come out of; these things don't happen over night. I think this is why the GOP ran McCain/Palin; they didn't want to run someone who could win because they knew the next several years were going to be a disaster.
Looking into my crystal ball, if the economy improves in the next 2 and 1/2 years before the 2012 election; Obama will win a second term. If it doesn't, he stands a great chance of losing that election (though I really think it will depend substantially on who the Repubs have running). If the Repubs win control of congress in 2010 and the white house in 2012, people will be expecting results. I'm sure everyone will be willing to give them as much time as people have given Obama. To think this mess could be cleaned up in 18 months is moronic.
Typical dumb-ass. It has been said, over and over, that the IRS will NOT be hauling you off to jail, or fining you, for NOT taking the insurance. But, they STILL toss it out there like it's fact. And people DO take it serrious. How do you fight that kind of ignorance??
Apparently you wait until that ignorance is wearing some colonial era mock up and comes to your door looking to start shooting over a case of Earl Gray. Then you shoot them in self defense because they are clearly out of their minds and trespassing. There is just no reasoning with crazy people.
I just call it like I see it. That's the road they seem to want to walk down. A major miscalculation on their part. I don't think many would follow them. But if these idiots want it I say give it to them. Our gene pool will be better off in the long run.
We to show up in force at the polls or we risk losing this country back to the racist and speacial intrest groups. Take our country back from big busniess and get to making something again. Republicans are ready to cede the freedom they so loudly and ignorantly holler about just to give it away to Corporate American in the name of the bottom line.
Agree. But if Democrats start fighting with each other, there will be a problem. Just take a glance at what is going on at DailyKos.
The far left wing of the Democratic Party is as stupid and dangerous as the far right of the Republican Party.
And the media cares nothing for the truth. All they want are good photo-ops and simple, bumper sticker slogans.
Agree Chandler, actually, I'm considering doing something I've never done before - i think i just might cross over and help choose the repugnant candidate - that old know your friend, know your enemy better deal. They have done it to us forever, time about is fair play.
Another "Tea-Partier" misreprents the original tea-party once again.
The original Tea-Party was protesting corporate influence over parliment.
Parliment instituted a targeted tea tax toward the colonies, at behest of the east india trading companies lobbying to the queen. Many of those patriots didn't have problems with the taxes, they had a problem with the unfair advantage given to powerful corporate entities...if they would have taxed everyone the say, there would have been no boston tea-party.
I don't know what's worse. The ignorance, or the irony.
I think that these people need to actually read our history before they spout about how we are so far from what was intended.
You mean that they can read? Shocking. I thought they just parroted whatever was said on the oxycotin Rush show.
Let me guess, this guy reenacts the Civil War every weekend.
lol!!!
Just leave my state out of it. We can't be having any more Freedom Trails around here.
Love it!!!!!!
One of Sarah Palin's boobs is running for congress in Alabama!
Not sure one of her boobs would get her elected in Alabama Forrest. But if she were to get the name Bear Bryant tatooed on that boob she would be a shoe-in.
Bet it wins.
Hey Mark Murray - I think you should guess Ben Franklin rather than George Washington as to the identity of the uknown Founding Father in the center. Maybe Washington is the one dressed up in uniform on the right. Most tea baggers are too stupid to realize that Ben Franklin was a Liberal Founding Father, they think our Founding Fathers were all a bunch of biblethumping conservatives.
No surprise that we have a tea bagging traitor advocating violence against our legitimate federal government. Sick Rick Barber is another Tory Traitor tea bagging cheapskate who doesn't want to pay taxes while expecting everything the federal government does is paid for by magic, or the poor and middle classes. If these freeloading cheapskate tea bagging Tory Traitors don't like paying taxes and want no government oversight of their lives then they should move to Somalia which would be their haven for living with no government oversight nor taxes. Plus they would get to carry any guns they wanted to.
Time for the federal government to go after these rightwing militia groups who want to bring violence to our federal government, time to shut down their treacherous talk as well. No wonder our country is divided like we're a nation full of fueding Hatfields and McCoy's. All of this can be laid at the feet of the evangelical christian lunatic fringe who have divided our populace the past 30 years with their crazy talk.
Erik,
You should thank God our Founding Fathers were Conservatives, if not you would most likely be speaking a different language, and quite possibly be hung, or shot, for some of your comments.
CA- I think we just found the other boob....
Pretty sharp retort there, Drive by.
Yes they were conservative, and they were NRA members, and also too they were huge NASCAR fans, winky, wink.
sharp, correct and true there, dave
The Founding Fathers were conservative and you would be shot....if you fooled with one of their "perty" slave girls. Racists Republican conservatives Jesse Helms and Strom Thurman went to their graves knowing their black heritage. No greater justice.
Another Mint Julip please.......Oh, and Jesse fathered a lesbian. Praise the Lord.
Actually our founding fathers were considered quite liberal in their day, after all, they wrote the documents that liberated us from bondage to the queen, didn't they? they also took extra care in the formation of our government to ensure we had a democracy not an autocracy. seems to be the one thing the wealthy repugnants prefer to forget.
What the hell is wrong with you Dave, et al - besides a lack of education? Just because you wish to remake history to fit your current mindset (like the Texas Board of "Education") - it doesn't make the founding fathers the conservative idealogues you claim. Really.
It's ok, Chris. I LIKE boobs. As a matter of fact, if it weren't for boob displays, I'd probably never watch Fox and Friends, and miss out on all the garbage they put up as 'news' each day.
Union Baby--We do NOT live in a democracy. Our Founding Fathers set this country up as a democratic republic. There is a differance, get it right.
Our Founding Fathers were the progressives of their day. The conservatives were called Loyalists. They didn't want any liberal enlightenment talk of freedom and equality to get in the way of their status quo relationships with the crown and the East India company.
NoJo - But you can't very well have a democratic republic without those elements of democracy now can you?
And so, by your own admission then, it doesn't matter what you or I want or if we think the country is going in the righ direction or not...I mean we don't live in a democracy.
To every people there comes one terrible and inevitable final hour when it must choose between those things by which men live or those by which they die. The hour is upon you (Taylor Cladwell, The Final Hour).
The country is at a crossroad and where we go from here depends on WE the people.
I just don't want to go back for more of the same.
The tea-baggers don't want more of the same, either. Most are ready for a change. Remember? We were promised a change, and all we got so far has been lies, subterfuge, and national debt spiralling out of control. As a former member of the military, it sickened me to watch that phony-baloney bow to a Muslim, and not recite the Pledge of Allegience, nor put his hand over his heart when the National Anthem is sung or the Pledge is said by others in his presence. How many of you posting on here HAVE served in the military for the U.S.? You were never released from the oath you took. Your oath did not include the protection of the president of the United States of America. Your oath was to protect the Constitution of the United States of America, and Barry Sotoro is trampling ALL OVER IT!!!
So Joe, it sickened you to watch the POTUS bow to a muslim did it? Well maybe someone should have woke you from your dream. The POTUS did NOT bow to a muslim. And i'm guessing you have no clue as to who or what nationality the man he DID bow to is. Actually, I don't have to bet. I KNOW you have no clue by your post. Much like everything else you have to say. No Clue. And FYI, claiming to be military doesn't give you instant credibility. Just makes you look like an ill informed soldier who burts out just anythig without knowing what they are talking about. You learn that in the military?
And again Tea baggers - where have you been (not only for the past administratin) but for the past 30 years that this country has been looking down the barrell of the national debt. Please, the only time people like you and the politicians you support (and I would say this for democrats too) care about the national debt is when you are in the minority. Once you gain the majority, it goes back to "Deficits Don't Matter" again right? I think I've seen this movie before....it was called the Contract for America...came out in '94, you might remember. Anyway, it was a great movie and all for at least the 6 years that a Democrat held the White House but once a fellow conservative takes office and power is consolidated....poof, contract terminated, sorry...we were just kidding about that...actually, we just wanted to screw with Clinton....
And as far as the "bowing" goes; at least he didn't kiss him and hold his hand.
Oh, and NoJo - I'm a former Marine.
The best thing we could do is line up all the petty, nit-picking, little bureaucrats against the wall and eliminate the problem!
A couple of words for you progressive loons, MA, NJ, VA, Reid, Boxer. Thank God we can see Nov. from here.
Yes We Can - and from where I sit, Nov. is not going to be as kind to repugnants or teabaggers as first thought! And we can all thank God for that.
You could hardly be blamed for thinking the teabaggers might be a force to be reckoned with. When the pundits talking like the teabaggers were the second coming of the founding fathers
And a NY 23 back to you. Oh and thanks for that MA thing, Brown is quite handy when breaking Republican fillibusters. Oh and hey. not sure where you live but maybe someone should have told you. Reid, and Boxer are still in office. The election hasn't happened yet. But you can keep dreaming.
And Victoria, I have a feeling Reid will be staying right where he is if for no other reason than Sharon Angle (the Tea Bagger) believes that alcohol should be illegal....in Nevada....where Las Vegas is.....pretty much the economic epicenter of the state.
Like I said before, the Tea Baggers will only serve to divide the Republican party just as the Green party has done in the past to Democrats.
I doubt Boxer is going anywhere either. You're all smokin' some good stuff though.
Barber looks like Pee Wee Herman next to the Founding Founders.
Barber should write a book after the August elections: "How to Commit Political Suicide".
Why does such a small group elicit so much coverage from the media? They are the far right fringe of the republican party, assorted racists, Birchers, ditto heads, birthers, and maybe even a few flat earthers. But the pundits seem totally obsessed with them.
Hey Patrick. The answer is: FEAR. Fear propogates every facet of their lives and they know that if they do not get in line and follow along they will face consequences from those mad, fear-mongering morons
I don't think they're that small of a group. They're the new face of the Republican party (along with the bible thumpers). What used to be a fringe element of the conservative movement has taken control of the party.
The lame attempt by the tea people to claim the moniker "we the people" has gone far enough. It belongs to all of us, even the majority of Americans who voted for Obama
Small correction; "...ESPECIALLY the majority of Americans who voted for Obama...."
Do any of these nuts ever think about how this could be viewed as advocating for overthrowing the government? The Tea Party speaks about patriotism, upholding the Constitution yet advocates getting rid of those in government who disagree with them--so much for democracy and freedom.
Care to guess how long it takes for Barber's name to hit the FBI's watch list.
I'm amazed at you people IF you actually BELIEVE that Barber WANTS American's to actually take up arms. He is only wanting to get a point across, which he does very nicely. The guns were for PROP only. He is wanting to let American's know that they can vote out the 'Socialist' government that is now in place. America NEEDS more politican's like him who are NOT afraid to stand up for OUR RIGHTS, instead of trying to run over them. Come on people try using your brains for once.
I was going to vote on your post... but after contemplating whether it fell into the stupidest or scariest post category so far today...
All I'll say is you sound as craazee as Barber!
The majority of people did use their brains - that's why we have President Barack Hussein Obama!
Best part is he's your President too also dontcha know?
Isn't that the Klan's defense for the burning crosses on people's lawns?
"It's a symbolic gesture!"
Or maybe a burning effigy of the president in a noose would only be a symbolic display to you?
Perhaps death threats aren't really threats at all, they're just symbolic gestures of civil disobedience?
Nope, it's a threat. Don't tell people when they are and aren't being threatened, it belittles us all.
Does anyone who spouts off about their "socialist" rage even know what the hell they are talking about? You've all turned into goofy cartoon parots of fox news, limbaugh, hannity, beck, and the like. Carmeliasue, I bet you went to one of those evil "socialist" public schools didn't you?
I have had it up to my neck with these racist southern teabagging traitors. It's time they were silenced permanently! Treasonous talk like this should carry an automatic prison sentence (and that's being generous to this @!$%#).
Typical tea party "wannabe conservative" freaks make me want to puke. Listen to her talk about how she's a conservative patriotic american... "just die...bitch."
Try and get her to give up her kids public school, her mom's social security, medicare, the prescription drug benefit. Stupid Teabagging soccer mom wouldn't know a founding father if she was gagging on him.
These republican thugs, and the teabagging illiterati were all in favor of big government, big deficits, foreign wars, and police-state tactics when their boy George was in office. But the party is over, and they just don't get it.
"The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But under the name of 'liberalism' they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without knowing how it happened." ~Norman Thomas
WE WON! Progressivism is here to stay. Either get on board and support it, or you will end up in a mass grave with all the other teabagging traitors. It's coming, and there is nothing you can do to stop it.
Now don't sugar coat it, tell us what you really think.
Puritan,
Obviously you're upset, cut down on the coffee, your blood pressure will drop, and you'll feel better.
I take umbrage with your " racist southern" statement. I've grown up here and intend to stay here and am a WASP. However, I think that Teddy Kennedy was a moderate. He just didn't push hard enough. Leave the southern out next time and confine it to racist teabaggers.
The problem I see is that some of the media accept anything on their shows. Broadcast TV, and even most cable stations would not allow the type of shows that Fox airs. People like Hannity and Beck would be banned from most outlets. They would not allow the lies and sedition these clowns spew daily. If it were my call, I'd have them hauled off to prison. But this is America with that free speech thingy. Liberals can't compete on the airwaves with these guys. Ratings are better with raving maniacs rather than intelligent points of veiw. The trouble with the Tea Baggers is they were hijacked by the Republicans. The real Tea Party was against big government, but it was more about town and state. Towns upping tax rates, states upping sales taxes. They all want their bennies, but not revolution and bigotry that the Republicans brought in. When the Republican party falls, things should look a lot brighter.
"Do any of these nuts ever think about how this could be viewed as advocating for overthrowing the government?"
Left wing moonbats spent 8 years fomenting violence in the streets, rooting for American to lose in Iraq and lobbying for impeachment..... Now you are concerned about supposed 'sedition'?
Wait a minute!....I thought it was the spiritual and intellectual leader of the Republican Party Rush Limbaugh who advocated riots at the DNC in Denver and stated to the world he hoped Obama failed.
"Left wing moonbats spent 8 years fomenting violence in the streets, rooting for American to lose in Iraq and lobbying for impeachment..... Now you are concerned about supposed 'sedition'?"
Just FYI.... impeachment is the proper way, per the constitution; and per the same constitution overthrowing is treason - especially when half the country agree with the current government you nitwit.
I must have missed that 8 years of "violence in the streets" thingy.
Are you talking about Cindy Sheehan protesting the war on Mother's Day without her son?
The vast majority of soldiers come from small working communities. Democrats and unions members kids...not the spoiled republican country-club brats. We don't need lectures from you about this war in Iraq.
Amen! The U.S. military is made up of soldiers from hardworking families who believe in and support freedom for all, including Republicans and Teabaggers. Unfortunately if it were left up to the Republicans and Teabaggers to man an effective fighting force to defend the U.S., with lead instead of hot air, we would all be speaking another language now.
Bob - what planet are you from? Why must the far right create their own realities? Sure, a lot of people didn't like George Bush (especially the last few years), but I did not see this violence in the street or people hoping for failure in Iraq, nor did I see any substantial lobbying for impeachment.
I believe this is what is called projection.
For me it is more about stupid than sedition.
If there's a silver lining in this dark cloud, it is that the majority of Americans do not think this way. We are witnessing the extreme right of the republican party front and center--advocating militant uprising by force (locked and loaded); their extremist views are no longer in the shaddows or at their remote camps.
The anti-government, anti-minority, anti-tax, anti-everything Tea Party has taken center stage and the Grand Old Party watches helplessly from backstage, because they failed to speak out against the hateful rhetoric coming from FOX, Limbaugh and others and especially after Jan 20, 2009, allowing the extremists within the party take control.
This is a real story that the media should be reporting--extremism and the danger it poses to the country.
You are 100% right, we allowed them to crawl out from underneath their rocks. These folks are dangerous and a threat to our country. This add makes me sick and embarrasses me as an American.
