The Hill lists its 25 hardest-working lawmakers. "Senate Finance Committee leaders Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Max Baucus (D-Mont.) are the hardest working members of Congress, according to the people who work with them on Capitol Hill -- their fellow lawmakers, aides and other officials. Financial Services Committee Chairman Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) came in third."
Gen. David Petraeus will testify before Senate Armed Services next week to discuss Afghanistan, now the longest U.S. war in history.
Pushed back: "Senate Democratic leaders on Tuesday expressed confidence they can pass the tax extenders bill through their chamber next week."
Roll Call looks at how Democratic Majority Leader Steny Hoyer and Minority Whip Eric Cantor just can't get along.
"House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told committee chairmen on Tuesday that she wants Congress to finish a legislative response to the Gulf oil spill before lawmakers leave for the August recess," The Hill reports.

Considering the lack of really good legislation coming from Capitol Hill there are no hard workers in Congress. I'd say that the hardest working thing in Congress are the politicians's mouths which seem to work overtime spewing petty partisan political hubris.
Dont you just love the way these "BUMS" all honor each other ?Kick these "BUMS" off the public dole ..some have been on it 25+ years.
Job well done !!! OIL SPIL FAILED BANKS BAIL OUTS all from the congress
JOB WELL DONE MY A$$ !
The Hill notes: "Grassley is one of only 28 senators in history to cast 10,000 votes, and he has not missed a roll call since 1993." That is true, but that actually speaks to just how out of touch Grassley is. He equates being physically present in DC, or attending local parade during Congressional recess for representing the state. Grassley's like the kid who doesn't want to go to his grandfather's funeral, because it will ruin his perfect attendance record at school. Some things are more important than records.
I was at a graduation party recently and my son's friend had a picture of him with Grassleyduring his 2008 trip to DC with a youthleadership group. The young man said he would have liked to have gotten his picture taken with Harkin and Loebsack (the Democratic Senator and our congressman) but they were in Iowa because of the flood. I started to think about it and Grassleywas no where around (M-F) during the flood or aftermath. The young man said Grassley told him he had to stay in DC to vote on important measures. What a joke!
In order to obtain a record that no one but Chuckles cares about he has had to be in DC when circumstances in Iowa called for his presence. Since he started his record, he was in DC during the devastating flooding in 1993. Fortunately FEMA under Clinton was strong. In 2008 Eastern Iowa was flooded beyond imagination (well past the 500 year flood plane), it was the worst natural disaster our state has ever endured, and our nations 4th worst natural disaster. Congressman Loebsack and Braley (the Democratic Congressman whose district was also effected) and Senator Harkinwere present through out the flooding and aftermath. Yes Loebsack, Braley and Harkin missed votes, and Chuck stayed in DC and voted on procedural measures, but who served their district and state?
Who dealt with FEMA on the ground, who showed Bush around the devastation when he came to see the damge first hand? The Democratic congressional delegation, while Grassley stayed in DC to protect a meaningless record. Talk about being out of touch!!!!!!
I don't care how many hours a GOP or Democratic member of congress puts in DC, I care about how they stand on the issues, and what the have accomplished. What major piece of legislation has Grassley gotten through during his years in the House and Senate? I know of none! Harkin misses votes (as does everyone but Chuck), but even Iowa Republicans will tell you his office's constituent services is far superior to Grassley's, they know this because they only resort to contacting Harkin after getting nowhere with Grassley's office. (A form letter from Chuck doesn't solve a person'sproblem with social security) Harkinhas passed major legislation, for example he teamed with Bob Dole to pass the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Chuck Grassley will probably be re-elected, but he doesn't deserve to be re-elected. Any Senator that stays in DC to preserve and add on to a meaningless legislative record while his states second largest city is literally drowning is a buffoon, and should be sent back to his farm!
