Mark, Domenico & Ali thanks for another fabulous week here at FR! The upgrade came as quite a surprise but after our learning curve seems to be well received over all!
You guys/Ali sure can keep a secret...
Now if you could just publish a tutorial or something on the Newsvine link it would be most appreciated! ;0)
Well... it's just about time for happy hour and the Blackhawk's will be on in less than 2 hours to kick some serious Philly booty!
Go Blackhawk's bring this thing to a close Sunday! This is our time...
Thanks Pat! I will do just that & cheers right back at ya ;0)
The scary thing is I wasn't even born the last time they won the Stanley Cup! But I do have fond memories of going to the Chicago Stadium with my Dad during the Bobby Hull Days (60's)! I was there the night he scored his 500th goal - I can still remember we thought the fans were gonna bring down the old Stadium:0)
So yeah... I think it's way past time to bring the Cup back to Chi-town!
A good weekend to all. I will not be here most of next week, but more on that later. This is a huge parent marker coming home to roost, but very exciting all the same. Thanks to our hosts, and now that I have adjusted to this a bit, I'm not so cranky about the change, except I agree with a previous poster. Should be in black, easier to read and not so tiring.
Thanks Domenico, Mark and Ali for serving us at the First Read Bar and Grill. We love to grill each other and Katie bar the door once the comments get going! Hey Chuck - figure out a way to post on both Twitter and your FB page, will ya? You still have people hanging around over there waiting for you to show up.
Let's keep reminding each other to bold our posts so everyone can read them, until Newsvine figures out a fix.
Have a good weekend and to all who are so inclined, please pray for the Gulf!
Despite Tuesday morning's surprise, once I figured things out, I like it! I second the idea of a Netvine tutorial for those of us who are internet-challenged. What I like is the ability to add comments even after everyone at FR is probably long gone home. Instant gratification. Oh, no, isn't that why we are so impatient, the computer world has us thinking everything should happen fast, now, yesterday including fixing oil wells a mile deep via robot.
Feisty said she wasn't even born the last time the Blackhawks won a Stanley Cup. So here's to them! Every fan in every city deserves a title. No matter what sport.
that is so funny you mention this, Pat. I was just at the Royals game and they actually had this great fireworks celebration to commemorate the 25th 'anniversary' of the Royals one and only World Series Title,...we have to live on old material; but it was fun AND we won,...yippee!
First apologies to You Mr. Montanaro for jumping on you'll a little bit over the "bam" thing early in the week. I'm going to plead Jody's excuse( lack of enough coffee) and throw in a little bit of you'll already had an old guys head spinning with all the other changes so what did you expect. Seriously while I am kind of excited about the new circumstances here and learning how to use the capabilities I am very glad to see that you'll over there in the manor still have the capability to interact with us. I think most here would agree with me when I say that our relationship with you'll is just as important to us as the relationships that we have built with each other. It is one of the unigue aspects that we have here and I really appreciate it and all the hard work and time that you'll have and still put into making this a unigue and gratifing place for discusion and debate. Hopefully this change will give you'll a little more time to step back and enjoy the fruits of your labor as much as we enjoy the opportunity you give us. Red I'm one of those oldsters that remember that before Gretszy and others Bobby Hull was the face of hockey. Used to listen to the Blackhawks play on AM radio after the sun went down and I could catch a skip. Since Grimey's and my Caps went down in flames real quick and Steeler Fans Pens let us down I'm hoping that the 'Hawks come through so I don't have something else to have to hear about when the Phillies fans invade down here when they play my Natinals. Good luck
IR: A quick hi to you! Hope things are well in your corner of the world. The crops are coming up here, and they finally got last year's corn off the field. As my neighbor said..."first time his 90 day corn turned into 400 day corn!" Have a good weekend.
Yep, it was definitely the lack of coffee. So glad that others and Domenico explained it to us (those who lacked the coffee). I, too, would miss having Mark or Domenico pop on here now and then to straighten us out! I try not to give them grief but admit to being too hard on Chuck this week even though I like him and think he does a great job. Everyone is entitled to mess up and I doubt he intended what it sounded like; he's just not a mean-spirited guy.
Have a good weekend. I think rooting for the Chi-Hawks is what I'll do, afterall, IL is about 4 miles from my house across the beautiful Mississippi where Mark Twain once said that the sunrises here (my town) are the most beautiful sunrises he'd ever seen. It is a sight as it rises above the tree-line in IL and shines across the water to say hello to Iowa. See you back here next week. You and your RHST can enjoy the porch.
Quick old Redneck shout out to both of my main ladies here in case you get back down here. Storming today on the hill so I,m spending the day trying to get this format and the Newsvine thingy in some semblace that I can deal with and get back to putting up something a little more cognizant first of the week instead of trying to fight my way through the mechanics of the whole deal. I see your both on the group list so I'm going to look forward to the continued dialog. NewDay caught you being gone next week but you hurry on back to us as soon as you can now you hear. Jody I'll see you next week and I want to tell you I'm getting some technical feedback on what B.P.'s doing so I might have to get you to get on here and pull this vengeful old fool back with some of that good Iowa common sense.
The Republican Party continues to just fault and obstruct everything, without having any answers or solutions. They use subterfuge to appeal to people’s self-interests and scare tactics to excite emotions. They focus on their political ambitions above all else and concentrate on benefit only for Special Interests and the influential, powerful and extremely wealthy few, their strong supporters. As ‘puppets’ for those few (less than 5%) they offer the majority (better than 90%) only apathy, the costs and subterfuge to rationalize everything and to manipulate public opinion. What they say is empty of any real promise and only critical of the Democrats as they deceptively hope to con the people into accepting a return to ‘more of the same’ that facilitated all of the problems. The Bush-Cheney years are a despicable example of that focus as they stubbornly and arrogantly supported Bush-Cheney in using their offices and America’s resources for their costly private agenda. They would like us to forget that and not realize that returning to ‘more of the same’ would again be costly and even more so than the current necessary costs of fixing what they have already contributed to. The con is their game and should the voters be excited and fooled by their deceptive efforts, we could end up with the catastrophe of ‘more of the same’. The Republicans just don’t currently deserve any consideration as they completely fail to honestly and responsibly be sincere to consider the people instead of just focusing on their political ambitions.
I have long believed in voting for the best qualified candidate, and I have been known to vote for a Republican. But never again: As God is My Witness:
I will never vote Republician again!
Not after watching them consitently making decisions based on tactics over contents. Dems don't get everything right 100% of the time, but at least they work toward improving American life and are willing to reach a consensus.
Carole
PS: I too would like a Blackhawk victory in the Stanley Cup. It is hard to get in the hockey mood here in sunny southern California but I have great memories of buying standing room only tickets in the old stadium, standing almost to the ceiling and watching the H E M line. Hull, Espasito and Macky. (sorry if I spelled their names wrong.)
Yes the memories live on... as nice as the United Center is... it will never have the ambiance of the old Chicago Stadium!
I was saddened a couple of years ago when I heard Keith Magnuson was killed by a drunk driver in Canada! What a 'scrapper' that guy was!
On my tenth Birthday I actually got a card from him! :0) Those were the days when the players were accessible after the games for photo's & autographs! Good times!
Ps: I don't want to talk about the game last night UGH! LOL
Too funny! Really... LMAO @ the chicken!

Best of luck Feisty to the Blackhawks. Have a beer or two for me, but more importantly, have fun and enjoy the game.
Cheers!

I was. I remember when Hull was a frequent TV Guide cross-word puzzle item--hockey great (4 letters across or down).
Should have said, I was born before the last Chi-town Stanley cup.
Jody... it's our little secret M'kay? ;0) LOL!

I second that last thought especially.

Well, there's a first time for everything. . .
I'm with Fiesty. . .
as a Devils fan, (3 Stanley cups), I say. . .
LET'S GO BLACKHAWKS!!!!!!
